My first car accident
Darn. It was bound to happen at some point in my life, but tonight was my first car accident. I had just dropped off a friend, and while backing out of the driveway, I backed into a parked car in the street.
It was completely my fault, of course, but what really irritates me is that I went out of my way to offer my friend a ride home. So, friends, the moral of the story is that nice guys finish last

Re: My first car accident
Cheer up guys! You could be like me. I once got three speeding tickets in two months. I've also had three wrecks in the past 10 years. Just don't be like me.

Re: My first car accident
- Driving high-powered cars for most of my life, I can sympathize.
- My high-school years were.... turbulent. I ended up actually losing my DL for six months because of so many speeding tickets. One was for 128mph, and I was lucky I didn't actually get hauled to jail for that one (the trooper was rednecky, and he liked the car, so he didn't arrest me). The attached image is the car I drove, only mine was black. 351 Cleveland V8, Hurst 4 on the floor, Holley 4bbl carb, etc etc and so on, it was a beast. GADS I miss that car.
Especially now that I'm old enough to take care of it.
- I had several wrecks, none very serious. One day I did about five 360's on a wet road trying to dodge a dog that wandered into the street... I missed the dog (yay!) and ended up still on the road pointing into oncoming traffic. Man that was cool.
- Another time I got busted racing my best friend who drove an old GTO. For SOME reason, the cop saw fit to ticket ME for following too close to my bud, but my friend didn't get anything! We had to have been doing 110.
- This car now (my avatar) has a lot of cajones, but I'm too scared to blast around in it because, frankly, I'd have to pay my own tickets now.
I did race a viper on GA400 one night coming home from Florida. It was about 3am and the roads were just vacant. I stayed with him easily until something started vibrating and I slowed down for fear of damaging the car... it turned out to be a badly balanced drive shaft. Factory replaced it.
You should have seen them when I told them it only vibrates at over 90 mph. "Uhhh sir, we can't test that..." Wanna come for a ride with me? "Uhh no, we'll replace it."
- No tickets or accidents in the last 7 years or so, which is surprising considering the sad state of Atlanta drivers, and I've even been to Tennessee with the Cobra, which is the most horrible state EVER to drive in. I'm lucky I lived through it."In better times, we even had laws prohibiting homosexual behavior enev [sic] though we had the Bill of Rights at that time." - Kewlie

Re: My first car accident
I got arrested once for driving while suspended.

Okay, twice.
All behind me now, however. I am currently a good citizen.
I did get a speeding ticket last summer, however. Then, the prosecutor's office sent me a paper saying if I pay them $200, they will hold the ticket for a year, and if I get no tickets in that year, they'll throw it out and it'll never count against me.
Doesn't that kinda sound mafia-like to you?
I still paid it to them, though.

Re: My first car accident
I just got a speeding ticket last month. I was going 47 in a 35, but I musat admit that I did not know it was a 35.
Usually, though, I speed anyway, so it was a fair stop considering how often I do not get pulled over. It was my first ticket in about 5 years, though. I have never been in a car accident AFAIK, at least when I was driving. For true conversion, click here.

I learned to drive in New Jersey
Fear meWe are facing an enormous and dramatic clash between good and evil, death and life, the 'culture of death' and the 'culture of life'. We find ourselves not only 'faced with' but necessarily 'in the midst of' this conflict: we are all involved and we all share in it, with the inescapable responsibility of choosing to be unconditionally pro-life. --John Paul II
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live --Deuteronomy 30:19

Re: My first car accident
My officer apologized for giving me a ticket. He said that nice people should not get tickets. I had told him that I felt it was fair and that I deserved it, and I thanked him for doing his job.

Re: My first car accident
My officer said "I'm not giving you the ticket you deserve. That would have been $120 and 4 points. Instead, I'm charging you at a lesser speed and that's only $77 and 2 points."
I said "Thanks."
In hindsight when the officer asked me why I was speeding, my reply shouldn't have been "because I wasn't paying attention". He then asked if I noticed that I had passed him, and I said "yes"...
