      Make Poverty History

I don't know if this campaign is running in America, but here is the website:

      http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/

Every single day, 30,000 children are dying as a result
      of extreme poverty.

This year, 2005, we finally have the resources, knowledge and opportunity to end this shameful situation.

That's what this website is about. Join the band of people who are taking action to make poverty history. It only needs to take you a matter of minutes every month, but it will help us to literally change the world.
And the latest advertising campaign released yesterday: called CLICK

There is a campaign in America, called The One Campaign, and you can find international campaigns via White Band

      We can beat:

      *
      AIDS
      *
      Starvation
      *
      Extreme poverty

is close to the top of the page of "The One Campaign". I don't know how on earth, "we can beat AIDS" unless there is a major behavioral change. I think I'll stick with World Vision.

      Who founded The ONE Campaign?

The ONE Campaign was founded by Bread for the World, CARE, DATA, International Medical Corps, International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Oxfam America, Plan USA, Save the Children US, World Concern, and World Vision, and works closely with the National Basketball Association, Rock the Vote, and the Millennium Campaign.

      Re: Make Poverty History

      I stand corrected.
My point is that we cannot solve the AIDS crisis by throwing money at it. World Vision is working with poverty and starvation.

"World Vision is a Christian relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty."

I am immediately suspicious (perhaps wrongly) when folks such as Brad Pitt are on the "Front Page". Remember Live AID? What a disaster. When politicians and Celebrities get involved, things don't often work out as planned. I KNOW World Vision and they do their job well.

      Re: Make Poverty History

I'm not going to debate it, cos this isn't that kind of thread.
Onecampaign, along with MPH etc operate accorss the board, not just by throwing money at things:
WE RECOGNIZE that a pact including such measures as fair trade, debt relief, fighting corruption and directing an additional one percent of the U.S. budget toward meeting basic needs – education, health, clean water, food, and care for orphans – would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the poorest countries.

If you are doing your bit, then great!

I used to work for World Vision UK, so I know how they go about things, and it's a great model for local change even in corrupt countries. My local MP does things with WV as well.

Another very good mission is www.christianaid.org They channel funds to indigenous pastors/missionaries, many in "closed countries". (You can help former Muslims, now pastors/missionaries through CA.)

Indigenous pastors/missionaries worldwide, besides preaching and teaching the Gospel, also run orphanages, rescue children/youth from prostitution and help the poor in many other ways. When there are disasters, like the tsunami, they were already in the locations and Christian Aid sent money for relief.

This mission does not advertise, so I like to spread the word about them...I found out about them through a native Nepali pastor that was studying in the USA.

Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." John 8:12

You are writing a Gospel, a chapter a day,
By deeds that you do, by words that you say.
      Men read what you write, whether faithless or true;
Say, what is the Gospel according to you?

      Re: Make Poverty History

I think Make Poverty History was/is a great campaign. We need to do something, this is the worst problem in the world today, and if we are care about our neighbors then we should.
