Many years ago I did some research on LDS and found much of what you reported in your article. I did find one interesting claim reported around the time of Smith's forming of his church. The claim was the Book of Mormon was an actual manuscript for a book writen by someone else acquired or found by Joesph Smith by less than honorable means. I unfortunately at this time cannot document this claim.
