Fall Into the Gap
Is there a "gap" in time between Gen 1:1 & 1:2? If not, when were the angels created and when did Satan fall?
I asked Jesus, "How much do you love me?" He said, "This much." Then He held out His arms. . . and He died.

Re: Fall Into the Gap
Hi bob. Welcome to TWeb.
I think you need to post this question in another area, such as Christianity 201.When you feel like there is no place left to go but to the Lord, that's like saying there is nothing left to eat but food. (A missionary)
"See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!" Gal. 6:11.
My name is Chris.

Re: Fall Into the Gap
I don't know if you would call it a "gap"
Gen1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
I would say the Angels were created sometime in Gen 1:1 when God created the heavens and the earth. Depends if you think 'heavens' refers only to the universe or heaven as in the spiritual home of the angels and God.
Satan fell sometime before Adam sinned. It could have been before God created the earth or after it - but still before Adam sinned.

Re: Fall Into the Gap
I've heard people support the idea of a gap. Genesis 1:2 says that "the earth was formless and void (tohu wa-bohu). Yet in Jeremiah 4:23 God says, "I looked on the earth, and behold, ikt was formless and void (tohu wa-bohu)." This discrepancy has caused some translators to translate Genesisn 1:2 "but the earth became formless and void."
I have trouble with the story that this is when Satan fell, dragged 300 fallen angels with him, etc. Much of that comes from the Book of Enoch.
Another thought that I had heard someone teach is that the six days of creation deal with the creation of the earth, not the universe, and that Genesis 1:1 preceded the six days of creation. It makes some sense to me. Otherwise, we should see stars popping into existince at 6,000 light years away. That's not even anywhere near the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. So is the Milky Way and other galaxies we can see a figment of our imagination? An illusion created by God to fool us into believing the universe is millions of years older than it really is?
