Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
Those who are encouraged become encouragers…
“What I am saying is that we can encourage each other by the faith that is ours.” (Romans 1:12 CEV)
A number of years ago while on my way to work I was listening to a local Christian radio station and the program that was playing at the time was about repenting of sins, accepting Jesus as LORD and Savior. The speaker was talking about the how evil sin was and how I’d go to hell unless I repented and accepted Jesus. As I was driving the thought occurred to me that I didn’t need to hear here about repenting of sins, turning my life around, and accepting Jesus I’d done that years ago and every day I make time to spend a few minutes in a repentance prayer.
I know there are a whole lot of people who do need to hear the message of salvation but there are a whole lot of people (you and I included) who have accepted Jesus and found a warm and soft place in his heart. Therefore our needs have gone from accepting Jesus to building a deeper relationship with him. Included in the process of deepening our relationship with Jesus come our need for encouragement during those times when life tries to build a rock-solid case against believing and accepting Jesus. And as you probably already know life can be very good at trying to drag us out of Jesus’ heart.
Yesterday while reading the devotionals I follow each morning I suddenly found myself praying, “LORD, second to my need to have a deeper relationship with you is the need to be encouraged every day because throughout each day there are times when the draw of life tries to overpower me and I need encouragement to keep moving in your direction. Please LORD fulfill the words of Isaiah the prophet in my life, “The LORD God gives me the right words to encourage the weary. Each morning he awakens me eager to learn his teaching; he made me willing to listen and not rebel or run away.” (Isaiah 50:4-5, CEV)
There can be no doubt at times life can be difficult and when they come Jesus encourages us, “If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 CEV) And because Jesus has put his words in our hearts the words of Jesus can flow from our hearts to the hearts of others.
Those who are encouraged ARE encouragers!
Anticipate! Experience! Believe! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
