Sounds like they're sorry because they got found out
"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

You got to be kidding. There is a thing called truth. Oh, that's right: You do have problem with that concept.

          You don't believe Israel exists?

And that the publishing company was ok to leave it out of their atlas?

Of course I believe Israel exists. Does leaving it off a map somehow make it suddenly vanish? Definitely not. Is the legitimacy of Israel's existence actually threatened by leaving it off a map (let alone for people that have been erasing it anyway)? I don't see how. As far as the publishing company goes, I'm not sure I see much of a difference between what they did and what faith-based publishing companies do for Christian school textbooks. We don't hold publishing companies accountable for whatever other nonsense the books they put out might contain. There's certainly been no public outcry against publishing companies that put out atheist literature. The only thing special here (afaict) is that it's Israel being 'threatened'.

Bet you'd make a big stink if your country was left off the map by a publishing company.

Especially when said company admitted leaving it off to make more sales.

Gonna put in my order for an atlas that leaves Oregon off! My preference must not be denied!

Nah, it's either a bone-headed mistake or publishers trying to make money by catering to a market by lying. Either way, terrible. Whatever happened to the idea of an impartial reference book?

IMHO it shows that claiming that Israel has no right to exist is a legitimate view. After all if such a respectable Western publishing house can essentially deny their existence then there must be something to it.

Doesn't it contribute to marginalization and persecution?

the latter rather than the former.

It's actually not that different to how Google shows different borders for Crimea on Google Maps if you're in say Russia compared to USA.

I bet I wouldn't. My country's existence or legitimacy isn't changed by a company leaving it off certain maps. Stupid is still stupid, and getting upset about it doesn't really change things. There will always be stupid. Why should that offend me?

Is it true that the publishing house is denying Israel's existence? I don't see how. If that's how we're going to view it, then my point about atheist works getting published is even more relevant. You don't honestly think that the owners or employees of a publishing house believe in everything they publish, any more than the editors and publishers of a peer-reviewed journal necessarily hold to the interpretations of whatever articles they've included. They're paid to provide a service. It's just as stupid as holding chick-fil-a employees in contempt because of what the owner believes.

I don't see how. The countries buying such atlases have already been removing Israel from the maps. What's really changed? They can pay for the service instead of paying a dude to get high on whiteout.

One word: marginalization. It undercuts Israel's legitimacy - granted, it's starting with the indigenous pop but that's their base - wouldn't do to have muslims acknowledge that Israel has any legitimacy.

It's undercutting Israel's legitimacy with a group of people that already don't admit Israel exists. That seems like a pretty trivial concern.

It's perpetuating that which has long term political repercussions - but more to the point, it's aiding and abetting raw hatred. Stupid business practice for a Western business to get involved in.

Mind you, I think that's just as true for Google, et al.
