    Hitchhikin' still sounds risky.
If it weren't for the Resurrection of Jesus, we'd all be in DEEP TROUBLE!

It is. I just didn't have the heart to say no.

It's generally illegal in most places, as well.

The only way I would give any stranger a ride would be in a pickup with 3 200-pound dogs sitting in the cab with me while the guy sits in the bed.

Must be one of those "King Cabs"

I'm always still in trouble again

I'm unconvinced that "we did it when we were kids" is ever much of a justification.

To be clear, I'm not justifying, just reminiscing.

Yeah we used to play on railroad tracks and have BB Gun wars. Not too bright.

And yet, most of us survived, even without seat belts, and learned how to cope as adults.

"Most of us survived" is an even worse justification. There were ~756k abortions reported to the CDC in 2010, but most babies survived. "It could have killed me but didn't so do what you want kid" is not intelligent parenting.

For the sake of context: This is not just some random act of some family letting an older kid babysit the younger. This is some newfangled movement called "Free Range Parenting". I don't think we have to buy into that movement wholesale (and it does seem strange, honestly) to allow kids to do some things on their own.

As moss said, it is a different world than the one I grew up in.
Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

I don't think that was a justification. Just historical fact. I never wore a seatbelt. But I started to when I made sure my kids had theirs on.
