Home Economics 101

Welcome to the Home Ec Section. Matters of the family sometimes bring joy and other times bring grief. But it is never trivial: Family matters! Feel free to discuss topics such as the sanctity of marriage; the awesome responsibility of raising children; the struggles of communication problems; the grief of losing a loved one; or anything else that relates to the home and family. However, due to the more personal nature of this section, I ask that you would be especially thoughtful of the readers' feelings. My earnest hope and prayer is that the discussions in this section will help families grow in the love of Christ.

But remember, always play by the rules: here

I still use the cast iron skillet my mom gave me when I first moved away from home 35 years ago. And she had it since forever, so it's like a family heirloom! It's got to be 60 years old at least. Best skillet in the world.

I gave up on using cast iron skillets a while back.

      Now I use The Pin™.

Must be difficult cooking something on The PIN™

I'm always still in trouble again

It's great for encouraging others to cook for you, though!

I'd be extremely hesitant to eat anything made by someone so "encouraged."

Why did I EVER stop cooking with it?

              I'm in love.
I LOVE Cast Iron! I have a small round griddle that my mother gave me a while back that she has had forever. It's at least 40 years old! It makes really good omelets!

However, my wife doesn't like them because (as Rogue said) they're too heavy...

I would like to see what everyone thinks is the best way to clean one after use. Since they are so heavy, my wife has a habit of leaving them on the stove dirty until I clean it. I have been scrubbing them with dish soap and warm water, then reseasoning them before putting them up. Suggestions?

Poison isn't the only things that can be added to your food.

Yeah. You DON'T clean them. Just wipe them off and touch up with a bit of oil to prevent rust when you put them away. It's called "seasoning"

A gentle cleaning with dish soap is fine. As long as you do not scour hard enough to break the seasoning (which I now understand is fairly tough) you are fine.

Cast iron makes the best fried chicken.

Wanna apply with me for a $500M federal grant to prove that?

                            There is a question?
