Bloom Where You're Planted by Gregory Koukl

On occasion, Christians who love apologetics ask me for advice to turn their avocation into a profession. There are no want ads for professional apologists, and this is frustrating to those who want to move ahead in this area. My advice to them is very basic: Bloom where you’re planted.

That’s the course my life took. As a young Christian, I began exercising my gifts wherever I could. Things started out small and over the years led to larger things. Eventually I was hired to the pastoral staff of a church where my teaching took on a distinctly "apologetics" flavor. Further opportunities came my way that ultimately led to Stand to Reason.

Wherever you may be, use whatever ability you have as a good steward, being faithful in the small things for God’s Kingdom. This is Peter's advice in 1 Peter 4:10-11: "As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."

Remember this truism from Christian communicator Charlie "Tremendous" Jones: "If you’re not in the ministry before you go in the ministry, you won’t be in the ministry when you get in the ministry."
