Firefox question about saving files to disk
What is the firefox equivalent of IE's "Save target as" function?
I want to save some video and files onto my hard drive because it works better than streaming them on my very slow dial-up connection. With Explorer, I would use the "save target as" option and save it onto my hard drive for viewing later. With firefox though, the only options I get with right-clicking on the mouse is "save link as" and stuff like that. However, that does not allow me to save the file and view it offline like Explorer allows. Some files present the option of opening them or saving them to disk, such as pdf files. But some videos only seem to allow this in Explorer. Does anybody know the equivalent option in Firefox? When you feel like there is no place left to go but to the Lord, that's like saying there is nothing left to eat but food. (A missionary)

Re: Firefox question about saving files to disk
"Save link as" only saves the link to it though, and when you try to play the file in WMP, it says this:
I'm looking for a way to save the content of the video to the hard drive (like Explorer allows), without having to be online to view or listen to it. Right now, when I find a file like this, I have to open up explorer and go to the same site and use the "save target as" function. I'm curious if there is a way to avoid that and just use Explorer.Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play. When you feel like there is no place left to go but to the Lord, that's like saying there is nothing left to eat but food. What are you trying to download?
The "Save Target As" is the same thing as "Save Link As". I use it all the time when downloading things...

Re: Firefox question about saving files to disk
I think sometimes you might have to rename the file after you've downloaded - for example there's a link to a widget on the apple site that saves as a php file when you do the save as link thing but is actually a zip file.

Re: Firefox question about saving files to disk
Firefox is usually pretty good about going through all of the code to get to the download... That's why I asked about what Muj was trying to download.

Re: Firefox question about saving files to disk
I was trying to find an example yesterday to post, but the "save link as" function worked for all the places I tried, so it must just have been a problem with the specific websites. It happened when there would be a video or audio preview on a site that I would want to view, but it would be too big to stream well so it would constantly be buffering it. I thought that it would just be easier to download the preview and watch it offline, rather than trying to stream it. It would work with explorer but not firefox.
Like I said though, I can't seem to find any examples to show this being a problem, so I guess it's not a big deal. Firefox help lists "Save link as" as the equivalent of "Save Target as" so they are obviously designed to do the same thing. If I come across it again, I'll post the example and pm you, Xav.When you feel like there is no place left to go but to the Lord, that's like saying there is nothing left to eat but food.
