Who or what is Gog in Ezekiel 39
Hi. I would like to know how jews view Gog in ezekiel 39 as I believe it involves Judah/Jerusalem since Daniel is all about "his people" not gentiles.
The question is, who or what is GOG. Thanks and blessings. Peace and love to your and yours.
Ezekiel 39:1 "And you, son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I [am] against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal;12 "For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order to cleanse the land. 13 "Indeed all the people of the land will be burying, and they will gain renown for it on the Day that I am Glorified," says the Lord GOD.
Dani 11:45 "And he["GOG"] shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.
Isaiah 1:1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, [and] Hezekiah, kings of Judah. 2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: "I have nourished and brought up children, And they have rebelled against Me; 3 The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master's crib; [But] Israel does not know, My people do not consider." 4 Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the LORD, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward.

Re: Who or what is Gog in Ezekiel 39
Bump for discussion. I would like to know how the jews view "Gog" in Ezekiel 38/39. Christians have various views, both future and fulfilled concerning this "entity" that God appears to raise up just to destroy. This is brought up directly after chapt 37 where God tells the people Ephraim and Judah will be one nation again under one King. This appears to just pop up with no mention of this anywhere else in scripture that I know of.
Again, the highly "jewish" symbolic christian book of revelation mentions this same event. Thanks and blessings.
Ezekiel 38:18 " And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel," says the Lord GOD, "[that] My fury will show in My face. 19 "For in My jealousy [and] in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: 'Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, 22 "And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who [are] with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 23 "Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I [am] the LORD." '
Reve 20:8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number [is] as the sand of the sea.
Reve 16:18 And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. 21 And great hail from heaven fell upon men, [each hailstone] about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.Last edited by InChristAlways; June 12th 2005 at 12:45 PM.
