Home Economics 101

Welcome to the Home Ec Section. Matters of the family sometimes bring joy and other times bring grief. But it is never trivial: Family matters! Feel free to discuss topics such as the sanctity of marriage; the awesome responsibility of raising children; the struggles of communication problems; the grief of losing a loved one; or anything else that relates to the home and family. However, due to the more personal nature of this section, I ask that you would be especially thoughtful of the readers' feelings. My earnest hope and prayer is that the discussions in this section will help families grow in the love of Christ.

But remember, always play by the rules: here

I imagine that the tech has improved slightly since the mid 80s.

Anywho, it doesn't matter to me. I loathe coffee (June '79 was the first and last time I drank any and only because I had a durn good reason). This is the only thing that I'd use a coffee maker for:

There are workarounds. We have a new one and there's a little light on the flippy part and if you cut off the lid of a cup that's recognized, you can tape part of the white ring to any other pod and the light will read it normally. I had just bought a whole package of coffee I ground myself at the store and wanted to use my reusable pod.

Not really. It usually doesn't take very long to develop hacks for a new security function or simple work arounds. On some of my over seas trips, you can buy some hacked Xboxes and things of that nature. I personally never got one just because I think taking things you didn't pay for is stealing, so I don't take part in it, but I do know they exist and why I know most of those security things are often a joke that somebody will figure out a way to beat it.

You can make more than just coffee with a Keruig. I have hot chocolate, tea, and even lemonade packs for mine. They are pretty good too.

It likely has a light that reacts a certain way, to the color on the lid. At least that is my guess. I'd have to play with it for awhile, to figure it out.

But using a utensil you bought, and using it as you see fit is not stealing. A whole different kettle of fish.

Oh, and to whoever put fish in my kettle, could you get them out?

They have a Keruig at work and yes I've made hot chocolate in it. But I'm not going to go out and buy one for the 5 to 6 times a year I drink hot chocolate at home (where I use milk rather than water).

I have a coffee pot at home, but I almost never drink coffee at home. I use it ever and anon to make iced tea.

I saw a couple of those in the back of a drawer at work. I might have to try one the next real cold day.

I don't bother purchasing hot chocolate or tea or apple cider for mine. Too expensive. And the microwave makes hotter water (or milk) for those than the Keurig anyway.

I've tried the various "hot chocolates" in the Keurig, and, yeah... it just tastes kinda watery for me for the money. Besides, I like my hot chocolate made with milk instead of water, and my wife won't let me run milk through the Keurig.
