I think the real problem here is that we're trying to understand this with our earthly minds, according to the laws of physics, dimensions, etc...... God is not limited by any of that.

Yet the Scriptures also seem to present a relatively earthy picture of Jesus returning: "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God.." (1Thes. 4:16).
So he arrives on earth? Or will the earth be burnt up and humanity will find itself in another dimension at this point? Very, very difficult to visualize.

Just as lighting shines across the sky. Jesus will suddenly be seen by everyone at His second coming. That is exactly how I understand this (Matthew 24:27; Revelation 1:7).
