    The US payments system (e.g., credit cards, debit cards, ATMs, online banking and bill pay, online brokerage) is undergoing a huge upgrade that is supposed to be complete by October 15 this year. No, nothing to do with bitcoins and similar digital monies. Behold, Near Field Communication (NFC). An NFC-able smart phone might one day enable you to pay for anything using nothing more than the phone, as well as unlock your car. Fast, convenient, safe. More hack-proof.

    Why more secure than before? Tokenization is one reason en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokenization_(data_security)

      You could have asked, why is this not in X forum. Economics is not quite the right place because of all the new technology. Civics, but the government does not really have to be involved.

          Technology would make it not a right fit for Nat Sci also...
