I'm reading through some older threads, and thought I'd make a short comment/question on this:

Your mistake here too is serious. Although I agree this can in part be understood to refer to the currently living people group of the Jews, you narrow the original sense of the word way too far by insisting that it ONLY means that.

Note for example the way the word "genea" (generation) is translated "race" in the Greek New Testament and Septuagint versions of the following texts:
Zechariah 9:6
Acts 7:19
Mark 7:26
In any of these passages, to apply the word so narrowly as you are doing would be to drastically misinterpret the clear meaning of the context.

What Greek version did you refer to for these? I've checked several online Greek New Testaments as well as my hardcopy USB4, and they don't match what you said.

Acts 7:19 has genos, not genea
Mark 7:26 has genei, (from genos, not genea)

I also checked a LXX version online (http://www.zhubert.com/) for Zechariah 9:6 and it has allogeneis, not genea. I don't know enough to comment on the derivation of allogeneis, but with all the evidence from the NT, should we be looking to the LXX for how genos and genea were used in the first century AD, anyway?

Would you mind clearing this up? Is there another Greek version that you used?
