Apple Launches iTunes 5, iPod Nano, and iPhone
Yawn.
The iPod Nano looks interesting, though I don't know why they needed to drop the mini name. Too many minis running around?
The nano does look interesting, and I will probably get one, eventually. Though I was going to get a mini anyway.

Okay, one of my biggest pet peeves with 4.9 is that you had to have the Music Store enabled for podcasts to work. This has been fixed. With parental controls, you can disable the music store and still use podcasts.

5.0 also lacks a brushed metal interface, though the new one has similar gray tones. I personally think it was hit with an ugly stick, but maybe that will shut up the idiots that use iTunes as a way to barrage Apple about their HIG.

uh... i dont think i like the look of the itunes 5. it no longer has the seemless blend with the OS look and feel. would have been nice if they left an option to choose brushed or new. pretty disappointing.

I agree with Boom and Cir on the UI... Utter crap.
I wish that people would realize that dramatic changes in the UI (especially in the spacing) doesn't make the Computer-User Interaction all that pleasant.
All of the buffer spacing is gone, which leaves things feeling clutered.Be sure to check out Striped Theology, my TheoBlog.

Re: Apple Launches iTunes 5, iPod Nano, and iPhone
I don't think Nano is a very good name. I'm kind of surprised Apple would put out something with a name so indistinct. They should have kept the mini moniker, me thinks. Or named it micro. I keep forgetting what the heck it is called!
Also, I think they should just come out with a PDA. Yeah, Jobs hates the Newton, blah blah blah... but, really. I would buy one, assuming it was around $250 or so. And the iPod already is half-PDA, it has contacts, notes, calendars. All they would need to add is mail and web-browsing, a wireless receiver, and some form of input, and presto they have a PDA. Not that I think any of these things should be included in an iPod, but they could spin off a version of the iPod as a iPDA or something. I would kill to have one of those.

It isn't that dramatic of a change. They just changed the texture (same colours though) and rearranged a few things.

Re: Apple Launches iTunes 5, iPod Nano, and iPhone
From what I'm reading, the new phone sucks and is overpriced.
For example, even if you can fit more than 100 songs on your phone, the phone's software won't allow you to have more than 100 on it."Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.

Some times the little things are drastic especially when they deal with spacing, because our interactions are based largely in muscle memory.

To quote the NYT article,
Other sources have said even if you replace it with a 1gb card it will not allow more than 100 songs.
