OH NO! My Daughter is OEC!
Ya love 'em
Ya raise 'em
Ya tuck 'em in at night....
...and then they go OEC on ya.
She was listening in Sunday School when the teacher taught that Dinosaurs weren't carnivores and that they were on the ark. My daughter came home and declared that dinosaurs did eat meat and weren't on the ark. She was pretty disturbed about it. She is ten years old.
I told her that some people believe that G_d created the earth over a great deal of time (OEC) and that others do not (YEC) and that there is a bit of debate on the topic. I told her that either veiw is welcome in our home and that she is free to discuss it -- and study up on it to her hearts content. I told her the important thing is that she believes that whatever happened, G_d was the source of it all.
I'll have to get a brain washing kit from AiG -- I gotta get to work....

However I believe that GOd is the Creator.
P.S. Please put the kibosh on the AiG kit though.

Despite our disagreements, it sounds like you've handled this disaster pretty well. I just hope that your daughter will find her own way on this and that she will not be brainwashed nor become disenchanted with faith. Let the kids grow. The one thing I believe about all of this is that, in general, and whether we are YEC, ID or evolutionist, our kids will probably be smarter than we are.

I guess this post deserves some pearls. I'd have given you 5 if you had told her that some people do not believe in this God, and that this view is welcome in your home as well.

P.S. No need to rush for anything from AiG. In any case, run it through the BS filter. Retention ratios between 95% and 100% have been reported.Regards,

When my 8 year old daughter came home and told me that she believed in evolution, I immediately put her up for adoption. I will not stand for the occult in this household.

This has been a pleasant feel-good thread. The glimpses I get into your family here and in other stories sound wonderful.

But the comments from the Sunday School teacher are really odd. What kind of supervision is there of the content of Sunday School teaching?
The teaching that dinsaurs are not carnivores; where does that come from? It is not the bible. The bible makes no mention of dinosaurs, unless you include such things as Behemoth in Job that is described as eating grass like an ox. But that is just one creature. Does an ox eating grass show than a lion is not a carnivore?
Dinosaurs are a diverse group. It makes as much sense to say "dinosaurs are/are not carnivores" as it does to say the same thing for mammals. Some were plainly herbivores, others were plainly carnivores.
Some Christians believe that the whole creation was vegetarian before the "fall"; but this would include lions and tigers and everything else. There is no reason to single out dinosaurs; and if dinosaurs were on the ark, then they lived post-fall, and are as a capable of being carnivores as anything else.
The view "dinosaurs were not carnivores" does not follow from the bible or anything else, not even in the most literal or twisted interpretations. For this to be taught in Sunday School is very odd.
Cheers -- Sylas

Re: OH NO! My Daughter is OEC!
Slightly-less-Crazy Rat, I hardily concur. One should not believe in evolution like one does for a religious faith, rather one should assess the data fairly and make an informed decision about whether the theory of the "E-word" gives the best explanation for the unity and diversity of the biosphere. Yes, a "belief" in evolution in the religious sense would border on the occult.

And quite instructive for this ongoing debate, and --- might I say... quite sad.

Yup, and I find it incredibly weird when it's taught in church as well.
