Ok, it finally spat out an error I can do something with: the infamous driver_irql_not_less_or_equal error, caused by no less than about ten different things, most of which I've already ruled out. I ran a memory diagnostic that Windows made, but it didn't find anything.

Re: Computer problem...grr
start backing your stuff up. i foresee an R&R in your future.
i'm heading out of town, but if you want to chance it with a repair install, here's a page that describes the process: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
i've only had one repair install fail, which was due to a registry corruption (something which shouldn't have to do with the memory error you are getting).
it's possible that one of your RAM modules went bad. but i'd expect your computer to fail to POST if it was a RAM issue.

This is the most aggravating thing ever. This problem simply refuses to be identified properly. Think I should ask MS about the odd parameter setting that came up with the stop error?

Re: Computer problem...grr
Ok, here's something that I tried tonight that has been surprisingly successful:
It turns out that there's a checkbox under the System Failure & Debug section for an "Automatically restart" (see attachment). I kept the other boxes checked so that it would report any errors it got, but just not shut the whole thing down.
I was able to play FFXI for ~45 minutes, which is way more than I normally have been able to. Also, it did not write any errors to the Event Log under Admin Tools in the Control Panel.
Could this have effectively fixed the problem? Dare I say it was a checkbox this whole time?

Small update: My computer is now in the hands of the Geek Squad, and they have orders to reformat with extreme predjudice if it gives them any problems whatsoever and to remake it in their image. I should have it back maybe today, probably tomorroow. I also advised them that it might also require about ten gallons of holy water.
There comes a time when I have to throw my hands up and admit I don't know everything about computers.Okay, I finally have a blog.
