Norton Didn't Like Me And I Didn't Like Norton, But Now One Of Us Is Quite Happy
Decided to post the following only because I've never put an OP in the computer lab.
Finally got rid of Norton Security Suite--it had hung up my access capabilities for about 6 days (never did care for its interface anyway). It only took 45 minutes of elevator music before getting a chance to say "What was that?" after every utterance by the friendly Bangalore techy who evidently just learned English this summer.
The fix only took half as long, which came down to a matter of talking me through a back door of sorts, uninstalling the program, and a ceremonial burning of the disk. Now running Zone Alarm Security--the current top rated protection suite, and am happy as a clam.
So take heart, good things do happen to good people; just might have to put up with a bit of crap to make it happen though.

Yeh, Norton gummed up my works when I was running 98, but I've used it's virus protection along with win xp and the combination seems to work pretty well.

Dunno what version, but they're definitely using it now.

Not sure, but it is included in their ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, 2006. The one I installed.

yeah, good riddance to bad rubbish. Norton is notorious for being a resource hog. if it wasn't that i had such a high opinion of Norton AV's effectiveness, i'd never recommend anything Norton to anyone.

Anti-Virus software is (for the most part) a waste of money. Just be smart about how you use your computer - don't use internet explorer, don't use outlook express (use webmail if you can), don't open strange looking attachments or attachments from people you don't know, etc.

Lee agrees! The only virus I ever caught was by my own cupidity. I dutifully checked an attachment, virus-checker-who-shall-remain-nameless said it was fine, and it wasn't! It seems this virus was fresh out of the box, and hadn't been made into virus-checker T-cells yet.
