My semester here at the university I attend is coming to a close. As a result, the Womens Studies class that I'm taking is asking us to take a survey to see where we now stand on certian issues (we had taken this same survey at the start of the semester, so that the instructer could determine if what she taught caused any change).

I had posted this same survey in the Home Econ Forum here on Tweb to see what some of the women thought about it and now I'm posting it here in the Pol Sci Forum to see if more people will responed. I took the Original OP (Found here: http://www.theologyweb.com/campus/sh...ad.php?t=63303 ) and copied it below:

Hey everyone,

First off, I hope I am posting in the right spot.

This semester, I’m taking a History of Black Women’s Activism course at my university (keep in mind that I’m a white, Christian, heterosexual, male. Sounds like the plot to a sitcom, don’t it?). One of the assignments in class was to fill out this survey that we did online. I did this about a month ago so I can’t remember just exactly how I replied. I thought that I would post it to see what the people of Tweb thought.

Before you look at this survey, keep in mind that the choices are:

Disagree strongly
Disagree
Disagree slightly
Agree slightly
Agree
Agree strongly

Here it is:

How strongly do you agree or disagree with the following statements?

1. People who don't go to church or read the Bible are unlikely to have a strong moral compass.

2. African Americans are not any more prone to commit a crime than European Americans.

3. Muslims are less trustworthy than Christians.

4. Homosexuals should be permitted to teach children in schools.

5. These days, the best path to racial equality for African Americans is by working hard at their jobs and in school, rather than complaining.

6. Homosexuals are just as good and virtuous as anybody else, and there is nothing wrong with being one.

7. It’s one thing to question and doubt someone during an election campaign, but once a person becomes the leader of our country we owe him/her our support and loyalty.

8. The first duty of a woman with young children is to home and family.

9. Unmarried women who have babies are just stupid

10. People of color think they are better than white people.

How strongly do you agree or disagree that the following are a major explanation for why there are poor people in the U.S?

11. Lack of effort by the poor themselves

12. Their background gives them attitudes that keep them from improving their condition

13. Loose morals, drug abuse, and drunkenness

14. Low wages in some businesses and industries

15. Failure of the economy to provide enough jobs

16. Prejudice and discrimination against people of color

17. Economic growth that consistently leaves out those at the bottom of the ladder

18. Lack of ability and talent

19. Underfunded schools in poor neighborhoods

20. Lack of investment in poor neighborhoods

How strongly do you agree or disagree with the following statements?

21. Black men and black women experience racism differently

22. The health care industry needs to take women’s health concerns more seriously.

23. Women are now treated the same as men in all important sectors of their lives.

24. Poor women experience sexism in ways that are the same as middle class women.

25. If a job does not allow both parents to take equal responsibility for their children, the parent in that job should try to change their workplace policies.

26. Focusing on issues other than sexism dilutes women's efforts to achieve equality.

27. A man who has chosen to stay at home and be a house-husband is not less masculine than a man who is employed full-time.

28. In general, I think men really do work harder than women.

29. Children raised by gay or lesbian parents are just as likely to be well-behaved, happy, and successful as kids raised by heterosexual parents.

30. Racism impacts the lives of black women, but white women need to focus on effects of patriarchy.

31. Women should be more concerned with clothing and appearance than men.

32. I really think affirmative action programs on college campuses constitute reverse discrimination.

33. In the past few years there has been too much attention directed toward multicultural or minority issues in education.

34. What is acceptably feminine in the US has changed over the course of history.

35. Women of color are psychologically tougher than white women.

36. I feel somewhat more secure that a man rather than a woman is currently President of the United States.

37. Affirmative action programs are still needed to level the playing field in business.

38. In the past few years there has been too much attention directed toward multicultural or minority issues in business.

39. Overall, I think racial minorities in America complain too much about racial discrimination.

40. I think White people’s racism toward racial minority groups still constitutes a major problem in America.

41. I think the school system, from elementary school through college, should encourage minority and immigrant children to learn and fully adopt traditional American values.

42. I think the school system, from elementary school through college, should promote values representative of diverse cultures.

43. One reason why men still earn more than women is because the labor market tends to devalue work done predominately by women.

44. Sexual orientation is determined by genetics.

45. Sexual orientation is a choice.

46. It's important that white women be guided by understanding the lives of women from other racial groups when they seek policy changes to improve their own lives.

47. Homophobia affects gays, lesbians, and perhaps bisexuals, but has no impact on heterosexuals.

48. What is acceptably masculine in the US has changed over the course of history.

49. Discrimination against African Americans also affects white people.

50. Everyone who believes in racial equality must fight sexism as well as racism.

51. Black and white women experience sexism in very similar ways.

52. All oppressions are tied together

53. A decrease in homophobia would solve all the problems both gay men and lesbians face.

54. Colleges with a lot of racial diversity among students really benefit the students of color, but don't really help white students.

55. When working for social change, focusing on a single issue (for example, racism, classism, sexism, or homophobia) is more effective than focusing on several at the same time.

56. Society usually stigmatizes female sexuality when it stigmatizes women.

57. Although people of any race can discriminate against people of any other race, the interpersonal level is not what gives racism its force.

58. Even if scientists prove that homosexuality is only slightly influenced by genetics, I will still think that homosexuals are just as moral and virtuous as heterosexuals.

59. Educating people is the only solution necessary to eliminate any form of inequality that still exists in the US.

60. What is acceptably masculine or feminine can change for any one person over the course of a single day.

Any thoughts?
So... any thoughts?
