McCain is a hypocrite
Yeah, McPain-Foolsgold is supposed to get the money out of politics, right?
Well, written into the law is an exemption for Indian tribes. Guess who heads up the Indian Affairs sub-committee? That's right, John McCain. Everyone else needs to have their money choked off except for the guy who can squeeze the Indian tribes whenever he wants.
The man is a hypocrite to end all hypocrites.
(FYI, this is the source of all the flap around Abrahamov, too.)
He should be censured and put out of the Senate.
(That's right, I'm campaigning for a GOP Senator to be removed from the Senate. I don't suppose LW will jump on the bandwagon and demand that Chappaquiddic Teddy Kennedy do the same, huh?)

It is that sort of nonsense that will have me casting my vote for Hilary in 2008.

Re: McCain is a hypocrite
I'm not exactly sure that the OP is accurate. Instead of stating it, please provide evidence. I heard this morning on the radio that Indian tribes are exempted from McCain-Feingold by judicial ruling.

From a Michele Malking column, dated 12/10/2001
Blaim the FEC, not McCain/Feingold.

McCain got more money from Indian tribes than all the other candidates combined.

Re: McCain is a hypocrite
So, are you going to correct yourself? It was not written into the bill, now was it?

Re: McCain is a hypocrite
Based upon the previous rulings of the FEC, it certainly was expected.

Everything else equal, McCain is the most balanced leader on the Hill...he's really one of very few politicians whose word I trust. If there is some form of corruption through this, I might alter my opinion, but all in all McCain's a pretty stand-up guy (not to mention the fact that he's got a pair of brass ones and doesn't let himself be manipulated by anyone).“Let him begin by treating Patriotism… as a part of his religion. Then let him, under the influence of partisan spirit, come to regard it as the most important part. Then quietly and gradually nurse him on to the stage at which the religion becomes merely part of the cause, in which Christianity is valued chiefly because of the excellent arguments it can produce…”

Nonviolence is not the way of the wimp; it is not the pattern of the weakling. Turning the other cheek is not a surrender, it is the believer's strategy of operation, the expression of freedom that the other's treatment of us does not determine our treatment of them; rather, we are free to treat them out of the principles at the heart of our own life.

So, are you going to admit you're wrong? Or obfuscate?Based upon the previous rulings of the FEC, it certainly was expected."Only friendliness produces friendship. And we must look far deeper into the soul of man for the thing that produces friendliness." G. K. Chesterton

Re: McCain is a hypocrite
OK, it wasn't directly written into the law. The law was written soas to gain that exemption. Happy?

Re: McCain is a hypocrite
Your admission is good. The second sentence is merely opinion. Have you read McCain/Feingold? Are you an expert on the law and the reasons the FEC exempted the Indian tribes - and I'm not sure that a provision written in the law would have abrogated the existing ruling by the FEC. Are you? So. Is McCain still a hypocrite? The law was written soas to gain that exemption. Happy?

Re: McCain is a hypocrite
You're expecting us to take alot of this on faith, such as "McCain got more money from Indian tribes than all the other candidates combined" and "The law was written soas to gain that exemption." Care to back any of this up?
