It's not anything Shakespearean, to be sure, but it's a valid examination of part of the human condition.

What is that movie about anyways and what makes it so great? According to the westview paper a local paper here its "an enduring story about the homosexual love of two men". I stopped there.

What is it about any movie that makes it great?

Giant monkeys, that's what.
But seriously, the acting and characterization is supposed to be top notch.

King Kong was good. They do need more giant monkeys in films. I luaghed at all the dinosaurs tumbling over each other.

Is Heath Ledger gay? I don't know if he is or not. I think not. But if he isn't I wonder how he feels playing a gay part.

I don't think he's gay, I haven't heard so (not that I've got my finger on the pulse of the hollywood gossip monster). He's acting, after all, I wonder if it feels much different that acting like anyone he's not.

One of the guys fell in love on the set with one of the chicks and IRL has a baby with her. I was thinkin it was Heath Ledger but I can't remember.

Any movie in which the protagonists are abominations to the Lord.... doesn't really qualify as a great movie in my book.

When even our Christian leadership has committed to a strategy of compromising on "Do not murder" by supporting judges [like Alito], politicians [like Bush] and rulings that explicitly will kill certain innocent children, it is absurd for us to ask God to bless America. -- Bob Enyart, 1/18/06

Re: Who Wants to Take Me To See "Brokeback Mountain"?
It's more about the struggle to fight their love for one another.
That's why it's so fascinating to see so many christians making a fuss over it.
Maurice was about a love story of two gay men in England - a Merchant Ivory film.
Edward the II was about his historic gay relationship.
But this? This is more about their struggle to fight it.
And for that, people are upset - and most, without having ever seen it.

Do all protagonists have to conform to Judeo-Christian morality? Have ya got a problem with Shakespeare? How about Nathanial Hawthorne?

Anyone seen (or heard, as I did) the latest round of ads on TV? I thought I was going to be sick at how gooey sweet they are. Yuck! I wouldn't see any movie with ads like that.

Re: Who Wants to Take Me To See "Brokeback Mountain"?
Despite the lack of giant apes, it is a masterpiece (I also thought Jarhead was pretty good). I'd highly recommend it. Here is what I wrote on another thread:
Have just come back from seeing Brokeback Mountain. It is absolutely wonderful. I'm probably doing the proverbial into the wind by saying this, but if you appreciate a good story, beautifully directed with pitch perfect performances, then I highly recommend it. I'd also add that you don't have to be a member of the chattering classes, an ivory tower elitist, to enjoy it; I'm not (at least not when it comes to film!). Its simply an intelligent film for intelligent people.
Here is the final summing up from a review I liked. It encapsulates the movie very well and, I hope, may whet some appetites:

It sounds like a movie to watch on video since there isn't anything exploding. On the other hand I thought Constant Gardner was sublime and that didn't have any really big explosions.

I loved Constant Gardner as well. This is as good. Nothing explodes, though a wolf does kill a sheep.
