Pet turtle names
Does anyone know some appropriate names for pet turtles? I bought two small turtles recently, but I do not know their genders. All the literature I have read suggests that I will not be able to determine their genders until they are more mature. If you know how I can find out before they mature, please let me know.
That is not my problem, though. The problem is that I have no idea what to name them once I find out what their genders are. Do you guys have any ideas?Last edited by ice_eagle; January 28th 2006 at 11:30 AM. Reason: spelling error

Re: Pet turtle names
We once had 2 red-ear sliders. One was huge so he was given the name Godzilla. The other was smaller and had been hit by a car so was a bit skiddish. I called that one "Poodle" my husband called him "Tiny Tim".
I personally like the name Kameko, which is Japanese for turtle. I guess in Japanese tradition a turtle is seen as a sign of longevity.

Yertle and Cecil <- Obligatory turtle names
Get two more and you can name them Donatello, Leonardo, Michaelangelo and Raphael.
(Watch, IE won't be old enough to get either of the first two references....
Man, I'm old....

True, (the rat is called Splinter) - might want to skip the guy in the hockey mask, though (Casey).

Re: Pet turtle names
I had a box turtle when I was a kid. My mom named him Soup. Now, being raised an Appalachian American, I didn’t know why until after supper one night when I went to feed him. It was the same with Stue, the rabbit. Never did find out what happened to Ol’ Yeller. Don’t want to. Just glad I left home for college before the mule died.

Re: Pet turtle names
It won't matter what you call them, they won't come. But, I have heard that if you put a yellow hard hat in their pen they mature faster.
