Real explanation: A soap opera is a T.V. series that is shown on a daily basis. Each episode is about an hour long (60 minutes). Most soap operas deal with drama and very weak plots that may expand for several episodes featuring a bunch of wacky and unbelievable characters.

In Spanish, we call them "telenovelas." In French, it is the "feuilleton."

I'm sure Brazil may have it's own version of soap operas.

In the United States, a soap opera is shown in the early afternoons, while a Spanish telenovela (T.V. novels) are shown in the evenings.
