We in the United States (and practically any other country that was historically under British rule) use this system of length measurements called inches, feet and yards.

1 inch is approximately 2.54 cm.

There are 12 inches in one foot.

There are 3 feet in 1 yard.

Whenever you designate a person's height, you say first the number of feet he has and then the number of inches.

I am 64 inches tall, or 162.6 cm.

That means I am 5 feet 4 inches in height.

Also: when you write down the height, it is generally accepted to use an apostrophe (') for the feet and closing quotation marks (") for the inches.

Example: 5 feet 4 inches is written 5' 4".
