I got a slight burn taking a pan out of the oven. It's nice, pink and tender now.

      No, not Starbucks, Starbuck.
He/she is a fighter pilot on Battlestar Galactica. The character was male in the old series, and when the new series came out they'd changed the character to female. At least they kept the blonde hair.

Derek meant "Starbuck" a character in Battlestar Gallactica. Female in the new version, male in the 70s version. Named after the character in Moby Dick, which was named after the mermaid and which the coffee chain is named after.

I once picked up a Corningware dish mere seconds after it came out of a 400°F oven.

The pressure would have to be extremely high for liquid water to reach 500°.

Hmmm, it might not have been that hot then. I forget how hot it was.

The hottest it could have been would be 212°F/100°C.

And that is boiling, water loses a bit of heat when it's removed from the heat source.

What exactly happened, how had the water been heated?

I was working at Taco Bell. It comes out of a dispenser. We used it to reheat beans and such really fast.

Oh, those. It was probably just below the boiling point, somewhere between 190° and 200°.

Who told you it was 500°? They were probably exaggerating.
