Re: Shepherd's belated bonus point spam thread.
I had been hoping to have lost 20 pounds by the 11th of this month.
So far, I've lost only 13.

It's good that you're getting exercise, Tell.

Re: Shepherd's belated bonus point spam thread.
I've just received a message from someone who I was friends with for three years, accusing me of cyberstalking. Because caring about your friends is stalking... not.
They added me on MySpace four years ago, and started talking to me, then added me on Facebook a year later. Eventually, I became familiar enough with them to consider them my friend. By this point, we were chatting frequently on Facebook etc. In 2009, I mentioned that I was writing a book, and that the local libraries around me were crap. They said I should check out the British Library in London. I said I would have to see it someday. They then proposed we meet up and go there together. Now, I should mention that I am afraid of travelling by myself, especially unknown places, so that I actually agreed to this is of itself quite remarkable. I decided to go, because it would be a chance to meet my friend in person, and I would be more comfortable wandering around London and going to the British Library with somebody else. Of course, we couldn't use the library to study because we needed to register and you needed proof of ID and address for that. So, after wandering around some more, I went back home.
Anyway, so I am thinking to myself, I can upgrade this person to close friend, and start talking to them as frequently as I did with my other close friends. They then block me, I text them asking why, they reply saying I was leaving too many comments on their wall, but that they would un-block me soon. That time never came, so every now and then I would send an e-mail asking how they were. I even asked a mutual friend to ask how they were for me, but that person eventually blocked me as well. I finally got a reply, and it was so full of crap that I could not quite believe it. Apparently, I creeped THEM out. They also said that they did not know me, and that they felt that I gave the impression I was willing to get a return to London the next day, which they said was "aggressive". The final kicker was the following line: "friendships are developed not gained instantly" and "when two people meet they do not instantly have a deep connection".
WHAT?! I am not quite sure how they missed the fact I was more scared of them then they were of me. I never once made eye contact, I sat/stood no more than five inches away. Then there is the fact they tried to hug me before I got on my train, and I nearly had a panic attack. I had told them explicity I had Asperger's and, was thus afraid of social interactions in unknown situations. Either way, my main gripe was how in their reply, they seemed to imply that we never actually friends, when we had been on a friendly level of familiarity for THREE YEARS. Oh, let me guess, being friends via the internet somehow does not count? I am also really annoyed that they sabotaged my friendship with our aforementioned mutual friend. What is more, they were a Christian!
They also said that the amount of effort and care I was putting in was disproportionate to scale of the event. I am sorry, but if someone I know quite well, that I have known for quite some time, disappears from my friends list, then I would want to know what is wrong. How on earth they could possibly describe my concern for their wellbeing and our friendship as "stalking" is mindblowing. I did get a brief laugh though, when they said: "You can quote De Profundis all you want but you are not Wilde and I am not Douglas". Even though I was quoting Synesius' Epistolae. How on earth you can get a 5th century Greek bishop confused with a 19th century Irish poet is also quite baffling. People are weird.
Oh well, at least now I know they were an emotionally unstable, neurotic, insecure and paranoid sociopath who did not value our friendship whatsoever. Saves me the embarassment of being stabbed and shot in the back later on down the line I guess. The main problem with their thesis is, if what they were saying is true, why have I not tracked them down to their actual physical location? Sometimes I wonder if my mistrust of people is a paranoid delusion, and then something like this happens.Crab Battle
