What The Bleep Do We know?
Watched one of the strangest movies ever, "What the Bleep Do We Know." Put out by the Institute of Noetic Sciences, it almost defies description.

Here's One of their blurbs.
"What The Bleep Do We Know", the latest independent film to take the country by storm is bringing the Noetic conversation to more people than have ever gone "down the rabbit hole" before. If you haven’t heard about it yet, you will. How much of this controversial film’s message is supported by science, wisdom traditions and our own personal experience? How do we access the powers over matter alluded to in Bleep’s underlying story? What is really within the realm of human possibility?"
Here's a partial review of the movie.
"Some movies are so bad, they’re funny. “What the Bleep Do We Know,” a pseudoscientific docudrama that purports to link quantum mechanics and consciousness, would be a riot if people didn’t take it so seriously.
Since its release in April 2004, this independent film has become a cult hit, playing to packed houses and grossing over $7.5 million. It’s a cocktail party sensation that has generated a powerful intellectual buzz. Unfortunately, the movie's popularity makes a frightening statement about a modern public’s fundamental disconnect with real science."

Even worse, its actually an infomercial for the Ramtha cult.

Heard about this one awhile ago. Never really looked at it. Might pick it up if I can find it.

I'm beginning to think Sturgeon's Law grossly under-estimated the percentage.

Re: What The Bleep Do We know?
I saw it 5 times in the theater (it was filmed in my hometown--in fact, my condo is in the movie!). It's very interesting (at least for me--a student of integrative medicine and medical anthropology). But be aware that the movie was produced by Ramtha--the reincarnation of a very very old warrior spirit. So it has an agenda to promote.
What was most disappointing to me was that the movie grossly misrepresented the actual views of the scientists. The film boasts an impressive cast of scientists (among them is Candace Pert). I would recommend further exploration into the work of these scientists--far removed from the silliness of Ramtha and her cult.
The film was HUGE here in Portland for about a year and a half. It played in all of the indie theaters for nearly 2 years.
There is some food for thought in the film--but I would advise looking deeper into the work of the scientists (NOT Ramtha) for a better picture of the socio-spiritual aspects of quantum physics.

Maybe unintentionally, maybe not. Other sites credit the Institute of Noetic Sciences, which was founded by Edgar

Mitchell, the astronaut.
But one of the prime interviewees in the movie--there are several--was Ramtha (I believe that's what they listed her as) was so full of pretentious new age clap trap and pontificating idiocies it was almost too painful to watch. Worse yet, it's misuse of quantum theory was an outright crime. And this doesn't even begin to touch on just how screwy the story line is. Not that it matters at all, but come on, they went to the trouble to get Marlee Matlin for the part of the protagonist, why not give her something to work with.
So, Anthrogirl, where was it filmed? My guess was somewhere in Canada.

I liked the part where Ramtha was talking about penises.
Filmed in Portland, Oregon ("California's Canada", according to Stephen Colbert
). Part of it was filmed in the theater where I was watching it. Kinda trippy--when the theater you are sitting in is on the big screen in front of you...

it sounds kind of like solipsism from that review.... another thing impossible to disprove "so it has to be real!" kinda... thing...

An interesting take on the physics in the movie here:

It's the 3rd choice down.
No matter what happens, someone will find a way to take it too seriously.

Wasn't that the movie that said that it was possible to walk on water with enough mental concentration?
