Are Transgender People Sinners? Theists?
While the Bible does speak about homosexuality, as far as I’m aware it is silent on the subject of transgender people- people who feel they are women trapped in a man’s body or vice-versa. I was wondering if theists could shed any light on this subject and let me know if they think a person in this position who decides to undergo an operation is sinning to live as the opposite of what “God made him/her”. Whatever your opinion, I’d like it to be backed up with Bible verses if you don’t mind.
Thank you

Female - ChristianRe: Are Transgender People Sinners? Theists?
Christians acknowledge that ALL people are sinners and fall short of God's glory. Those who believe they are the opposite gender trapped in the wrong body are deceived and are of a depraved mind as a result of the sinful nature that each of us are born into. This does not mean that people who are tormented by this deception are beyond God's help but buying into that depraved belief "a man trapped in a woman's body" or vice versa and acting upon it is sin.
God created humans to be male and female- one to complement the other.
There is hope for transgender people, for homosexuals and for every single other kind of sinner in Christ. No one has to live the lie of deviant sexuality.Last edited by elysian; February 18th 2006 at 05:54 PM.

No, of course not..they are simply another sign of god's sense of humor...Are Transgender People Sinners?

We can never be certain which it is...

I should think an empiricist would simply look in his/her pants to determine what 'sex' he or she is - and conclude, based upon the physical evidence that 'feelings' of being another gender would be misguided. Since you believe there is no soul it isn't like a 'woman' can really be trapped in a man's body.

And you know this how? Have you done any research or are you just pulling this out of thin air?

Not 'deviant' according to the American Psychological Association and most of the scientific community; it's simply 'different', and in no way unnatural given the presense of gender and orientation diversity in over 400 mammalian species.

'Sex' (which biological apparatus one has) and 'gender' (which sexual-social identity one possesses) are different things entirely.

What in the world are you talking about? A 'female' mind can exist in the body of a man, and vice-versa; there has been a lot of study of prenatal and postnatal sexual and gender development that shows how these physical and psychological mix-ups can occur as frequently as they do (more people are born trans-gendered in the US than are born with green eyes).Since you believe there is no soul it isn't like a 'woman' can really be trapped in a man's body.

Sigh...unfortunately human biology is not that simple. But your vast ignorance on the subject should certainly not prevent you from making ignorant or flip comments.

“Intersex” is a general term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male. For example, a person might be born appearing to be female on the outside, but having mostly male-typical anatomy on the inside. Or a person may be born with genitals that seem to be in-between the usual male and female types. Or a person may be born with mosaic genetics, so that some of her cells have XX chromosomes and some of them have XY.
That's a metaphorical expression, it has nothing to do with your nebulous concept of a "soul". But thanks for the amusing blather...Since you believe there is no soul it isn't like a 'woman' can really be trapped in a man's body.
Human gender is something that is not neatly bifurcated into two categories, it is a broad spectrum of biological variation. There are a variety of genetic errors, metabolism functions, hormonal and neurobiological conditions that can cause someone with the external genitalia of a man to "feel" more like a woman.

Superb argument skill demonstrated once again by the great BBU. Atheists just cower in fear when you open your mouth.

I gave you 4 clear questions on another thread that you were too afraid to answer ‘cause you’re a loud-mouthed coward who pontificates on subjects he can’t comprehend because he doesn’t read anything other than the Bible.

Re: Are Transgender People Sinners? Theists?
I wouldn't say that it's morally wrong- as far as sin goes, I'm not well versed on Christianity, so I really can't say.
My philosophy- if it doesn't physically or mentally injure people, then it's okay.
Transgendered people aren't hurting anyone- if it's still a sin, then maybe we should look over what constitutes a moral wrong in the Bible.

Nice thread resurrection. =)
Talk about a complete misunderstanding of the complications of gender. It must be easy for some Christians to dismiss this as "given over to a depraved mind." The only alternative is confronting the dysteleological implications inherent in the intersexed, which can be awkward.Last edited by Whag; May 4th 2012 at 02:09 AM.
"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion, that that means you're pro-life. In fact, you're morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. That's not pro-life; that's pro-birth." Sister Joan Chittister
