Eeeek, a virus, worm, trojan for Mac!

Well it looks like there's a worm in the apple( heh )
Has anyone heard anything about the proposed threat?
My mom even knew about it and she doesn't know anything(about computers).
I was reading a bit over my bassist's shoulder and as far as I know you actually have to say yes to a download and install.
Looks like only dumb people will get it. Unless of course there's more that I haven't heard of.
Good thing I still don't have mine hooked up to the internet.

So the Macs don't have diplomatic immunity! It's the price of popularity, quite possibly...

Which one are you referring to? There was one recently discovered in Safari where a terminal script masquerades as a JPEG. It sparked an interesting discussion about whether a component that deals with untrusted content (such as Safari) should send it to apps that don't know anything about untrusted content. (such as Terminal.app)

Yeah, I just heard about that one the other day. I tried the little proof of concept and it was pretty scary, so I unchecked "automatically open 'safe' files" or whatever. Of course, as per your recommendation, I've been using camino more and more now, and am actuallly starting to quite like it.

Nope, not just for dumb people. All it takes is viewing a website with the Safari browser on which someone has planted the malicious code and you trigger a script that can do run any commands you can run.

Not yet a patch out, but disabling the "Open safe files after downloading" is a workaround. This is an easy workaround, but using your browsers' default settings shouldn't be considered "dumb."

I think he might be referring to another alert, though I don't really know the details.
