I read this article this morning and feel generally disgusted. Also, I can't place my finger on the exact reason why, but I am genuinely offended.

The exact wording of the judge's order was not immediately available, but the anesthesiologists issued a statement through the prison saying they were concerned about a requirement that they intervene in the event that Morales woke up or appeared to be in pain.

"Any such intervention would clearly be medically unethical," said the doctors, who have not been identified. "As a result, we have withdrawn from participation in this current process."

Second trial? Where was talk of a second trial. There is a mention of difficulty regaining the death warrant for him, not an issue of whether he would be pardoned of the crime, to which the accused admitted to.

This man's death will not undo anything he did.

I guess my offense is lodged somewhere in the bureaucracy inaction and the state's inability to find a "humane" way to do something so vulgar. I mean, on the one hand, if you are going to committ state violence, do it quickyl and cheaply. One the other hand, why are we the people doing something like this in the name of Justice in the 21st century-- while fighting primitives in the middle east??

The dissonance in all this is really maddening to me.

Of course it was a strawman - in response to the one proffered by Jimmy. It doesn't lower the taxes or mow my lawn either. But then again no one says it does.

After that, the "death warrant" expires and officials would have to go back to the trial judge who imposed the death sentence in 1983 for another warrant.

But it will delay things and probably cost more money somewhere along the line. This man should have been put to death in 1983.

Of course it won't undo it. The death penalty is about justice. It is just to put to death a person who kills or rapes.

There is clearly a public safety issue here. So his confinement certainly has a purpose.

Really, without any appeals? I'm amazed at the insight of this case you must have, to be so sure of his warranting the death penalty, as denoted in California law.

Justice? That isn't justice. The girl is dead and almost nothing, other than his confinement and conviction, would bring any semblance of justice. Killing him would be vengence plain and simple.
