      A Call for Civility

Brothers and sisters, listen to me now. I have noticed two striking characteristics of the majority of people posting here: 1) They are very intelligent and good at writing; 2) They engage in superfluous name-calling! <Yes, I am guilty of it, too.>

WHY? Why is it that when someone asks a question or responds to a question, they feel the need to answer it AND add a little snipit about why the other person is inferior? It happens so much here that it's sickening, and I for one am sorry for contributing to it. Does anyone have any clues to the mystery of why we so incessantly engage in this harmful banter?

<Here's some wisdom both camps can enjoy> Words are to be used for teaching and encouragement. An ill-placed word laced with anger means that your heart is laced with anger. You individually will be better off for contributing only peaceful words to the world.

This post isn't meant to make me look good. I simply recognized a scourge on a board I enjoy, and it needs to be addressed. I'm sure the Christians will back me up on this, and hopefully the skeptics will, as well, when I say that your tone should connote love and patience. Please, concentrate on arguments and conclusions. Make your point and leave it at that. Stop telling people they are dumb, etc. If someone doesn't understand your point, explain it again and help them learn. That's it.

      Thanks for reading and writing.

/ot Here's some more humble advice, from someone who is not afraid to share his mistakes. Never squeeze out a fart when you have diarhea! haha
I'm a fan of verbal sparring, but calls for civility are always welcome in my opinion. Sometimes I think it's nescessary to lay the verbal smack down on folks, particularly when they're misbehavin', but let's cool off and try to be more laid back when we can :-)

I agree with BeHereNow, good post man

There is no reason for me to post words that express the truth that I am smarter, better looking, more knowledgeable, funnier, cooler, and just plain better than everyone else

Sometimes my greatness causes people to burst into flames in person, and I see no reason why I should express my attributes to the point that a fellow poster might be harmed.

haha Russ.... I love facetiousness It gives your post that certain... je ne se qua? (eh.. French is for the French haha)

Thanks for the recognition of this post, but for real I just want the name-calling to end. I like logic, I like debate, and I like reading on the TWeb.

      Great post BeHereNow!

      /ot ummmmm..... TMI
If I have a mystical experience, an experience that's so overwhelming that I know now that there's a God, the cognitive fallout from that is irrelevant. The fact that that experience can be explained by psychologists in numerous ways is irrelevant to the fact that I now know.
