css effect not showing up in IE
I have once more returned to firefox - yay!
I'm also working on my new site - yay!
I have finally figured out how to get a neat effect working on my site - yay!
It doesn't work in Internet Explorer.
My site is temporarily located at this url for testing while I'm building it: http://beretta.orcon.net.nz/index.html
See the neat rollover effect when you hover over the links in the main page? I'm referring to the text that appears. Now try it in IE.
The effect is generated by a small amount of style code in the header. I learned about it here: http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/popups/demo.html
And you know what? THAT site works in IE!!!! And as far as can tell I've done exactly the same thing he did. And you know what else? DeeDee uses the same effect at her site, www.preteristsite.com - and it works in IE for her too! (she uses a sepearet css document, but that can't be making the difference, since that other guy didn't do that)
Can any web savvy people see what might be wrong with my page?"Personally though, I won't use psychoactives because of the possibility of contacting a demon." - Kelp

Re: css effect not showing up in IE
Well, my IE says "Done, but with errors on this page" (on the status line at the bottom left). Then in the Firefox Javascript console (select Tools -> Javascript console) I see two errors:
"Error in parsing value for property 'font-style'. Declaration dropped."
"Selector expected. Ruleset ignored due to bad selector."
So those might point to el problemo?

Re: css effect not showing up in IE
Well, I can't think of any connection between font styles and this problem.
And as for IE, I don't get any errors mentioned. It's weird that you do.

Re: css effect not showing up in IE
Eric Myers doesn't use a separate CSS page? I thought he did. Boom has the same effect
www.opentheism.info and he puts it on a separate CSS sheet and it works in IENochyu mokraya ptitsa nikogda ne letaet.

No, the page at http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/popups/demo.html has it all in the header, and it works in IE.

Re: css effect not showing up in IE
Try changing
toCode:left: 240;
Code:left: 240px;

Re: css effect not showing up in IE
This fixed it in IE:mac, FYI. And it may be that Tazman/Trident are rendering the mistake correctly and Gecko isn't. I'd have to look at the standards to decide.

Re: css effect not showing up in IE
ooo, I hadn't noticed that mistake. But no, alas IE6 still won't display it for me.

Re: css effect not showing up in IE
I would check for myself, but clearing my cache still shows that you have the error up.

Re: css effect not showing up in IE
Maybe you could fix the errors that Firefox pointed out? (lines 47 for the font-style, and 54 for the ruleset). Sometimes seemingly unrelated errors can be related, due to, er, bugs in the implementation, where a stumble in the hallway causes a flop around the corner in the den.

Re: css effect not showing up in IE
Try setting a z-index and (maybe) margin.

Re: css effect not showing up in IE
I don't know what a z-index does, so I hadn't included it, but I've seen plenty of examples by now, so I put one in. Nothing improved. I put in a margin too, but to no avail, so I removed them again.
