      New dinosaur discovered ...

... in my own backyard. (Well, a little further south than my backyard, but still pretty close.)

Giant Raptor Dinosaur Discovered in Utah

      U of U

The new dinosaur, formally dubbed Hagryphus giganteus, which means "giant four-footed, bird-like god of the western desert” in reference to the animal's outward resemblance to a large land bird, its giant stature, and its discovery in the Utah desert.

What do the creationists have to say about this?

Thanks for the link to the other site.

Not being a YEC, I'm not sure what they say.

      The paper itself:

Zanno, L.E. and Sampson, S.D. (2005) A new oviraptorosaur (Theropoda, Maniraptora) from the Late Cretaceous (Campanian) of Utah. Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, 25, 897-904.

Abstract: Recent field expeditions to Upper Cretaceous deposits within Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. southern Utah, have revealed a diverse dinosaurian fauna that includes a previously unknown oviraptorosaur theropod. Represented by a single partial specimen consisting of manal and pedal elements, this new taxon, Hagryphus giganteus, gen. et. sp. nov., is estimated to be 30-40% larger than the coeval oviraptorosam, Chirostenotes. The holotype consists of a nearly complete, articulated left manus, a partial, articulated pedal digit II, and a series of fragmentary pedal phalanges and distal metatarsals. Several autapomorphies are present in the manus, related primarily to proportional differences in metacarpals and phalanges. Previous finds of North American oviraptorosaurs have been restricted to Alberta. Montana. and South Dakota. The discovery of this new specimen from southern Utah greatly expands the known geographic distribution of these theropods, nearly doubling the previously documented range of North American oviraptorosaurs.

I loved growing up here. My father and I used to go fossil hunting at least once a month. I have more trilobite fossils than I can shake a stick at. Ferns too.

SSHHHHHHH! They first have to place some fossilized human footprints next to it, then they'll comment.

Did you get them from over west of Delta?

Have you ever been out to Topaz Mountain? If not you should. There is topaz out there everywhere.
Tiggy: show me some of this more-than-sufficient evidence that would indicate the age of the Earth?

Jorge: What makes you believe that we are capable of obtaining such information? [snip] starting from a special, miraculous, one-time creation event such an expectation is unreasonable.

No, no, creationists would never do such a thing, perish the thought
One thing is to misinterpret the eroded dino footsteps in the Paluxy River as human footsteps, but creationists don't do frauds, only evilutionists do such things.

This is of course counting Ron Wyatt out, but since he didn't agree with John Morris about the appropriate landing place of Noah's Ark, he is anyway not counted as a proper YECist.

What's more, since the discovery of the supposed Hagryphus giganteus was done within Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, we can safely conclude that this "fossil" really was the remnants of a fried chicken left there by a careless visitor to the monument.

      Case closed!
