Two Wolves
A bit of wisdom someone shared with me. I thought I'd pass it on:
-----------------------------------------------
One evening an old Cherokee sat by the cooking fire with his grandson. "Son of my son," he said, "there is a battle between two wolves inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"
The old Cherokee was silent for many moments. Then he looked at his grandson and said quietly, "The one you feed."

Good post.

Re: Two Wolves
That is my all time favorite anecdote.

Re: Two Wolves
I will drown a puppy for every time I hear that anecdote. Seventeen times is more than enough.
"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

Re: Two Wolves
I killed them both and feasted on their entrails.

Oh I owe you big, DE. I made a bet with my wife when I made the original post that you would be the one to make a denigrating comment about it. To you I owe my winnings!

'minds me of a story the headmaster always used to tell new students at a school I taught at. Maybe DE will want to say something outrageous. Maybe others have heard it, but maybe some have not.

A freshly(?) dead person is being shown the ropes. The first thing is a vision of hell. It is a room full of people sitting down to eat a wonderful meal. Unforunately, they have very long chopsticks attached to their hands. They can't eat, even though they are starving. The chopsticks are four feet long and they can't get the food to their mouths. They also prevent the use of fingers. The bowls are cunningly designed to prevent them using their mouths to reach the food. The wails and cries of anguish are awful.
Heaven is an identical room. All the people are fed exactly the same way, with chopsticks too long to feed themselves. They are all happlily reaching across the tables with them to feed one another.

Yep. I, at least, had that inflicted upon me along with many other such chestnuts by the jesuits.

You've given it Dark Overtones for me now. Hope the flashback wasn't too bad.

I liked the wolves though.
