We Must Take it Or Leave It...
By CS Lewis:
"Another possible objection is this. Why is God landing in this enemy-occupied world in disguise and starting a sort of secret society to undermine the devil? Why is He not landing in force, invading it? Is it that He is not strong enough? Well, Christians think He is going to land in force; we do not know when. But we can guess why He is delaying. He wants to give us the chance of joining His side freely. I do not suppose you and I would have thought much of a Frenchman who waited till the Allies were marching into Germany and then announced he was on our side. God will invade. But I wonder whether people who ask God to interfere openly and directly in our world quite realise what it will be like when He does. When that happens, it is the end of the world. When the author walks on to the stage the play is over. God is going to invade, all right: but what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see the whole natural universe melting away like a dream and something else—something it never entered your head to conceive—comes crashing in; something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choice left? For this time it will be God without disguise; something so overwhelming that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible horror into every creature. It will be too late then to choose your side. There is no use saying you choose to lie down when it has become impossible to stand up. That will not be the time for choosing: it will be the time when we discover which side we really have chosen, whether we realised it before or not. Now, today, this moment, is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back to give us that chance. It will not last for ever. We must take it or leave it.""And all our yesterdays have lighted fools, the way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Shakespeare

Evil, no matter how beautiful a rhetorical face it wears, remains evil. And this conception of history is pure evil.

Answer: You can't.

The choice is: join, or die.

God - the source of all life..."And all our yesterdays have lighted fools, the way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Shakespeare

Yes, that is the choice
Would you prefer if there was no choice? Or if the choices we make in this lifetime are irrelevant?"Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God"

July 27th 2003, 11:22 AM #11Well heck, you are going to die anyway. But yes, get connected to the Source of life and live. Reject the Source of life and die. Makes perfect sense to me...The choice is: join, or die."And all our yesterdays have lighted fools, the way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Threaten people that if they don't believe in your "loving" theology, they will be turned into an "irresistible horror" and spend eternity in torture based on some eschatological fantasy.
It actually makes perfect sense to me that Seer continues to consistently proclaim this as the central tenet of his theology, morality and posts here on Tweb.
It gives him the illusion that he has the power to "save eternal lives" by using this tactic to frighten the non-Christian into his belief system.
I'm sure this rhetoric can give a “Christian” the most amount of smug satisfaction, with the least amount of effort required.
It is much more difficult to actually go out into the world and demonstrate agape love through hard work and action, than to sit here and threaten others with your "love".
But alas, what else are hypocrites to do on a Sunday afternoon? Football season is still 6 weeks away.

...who would rather be "connected to reality" than to Seer's "source of life"...

July 27th 2003, 02:47 PM #13And this from a man who thought that Jefferson was a Deist? But the facts are:It is much more difficult to actually go out into the world and demonstrate agape love through hard work and action, than to sit here and threaten others with your "love".

1. You have no clue what I do to reach the lost and outcast.
2. It does make sense. Reject the Source of life and you get death.
3. And why wait for the Football season when we have NASCAR right now... Oops - I have to run, I think Jr. took the lead..."And all our yesterdays have lighted fools, the way to dusty death. ...actually your posts provide many clues. I imagine you walking up and down the street in your neighborhood with a bullhorn screaming "this is your last chance heretics...take it or leave it, before God strikes irresistible horror into all you creatures...". Why I think you should have your own TV ministry...1. You have no clue what I do to reach the lost and outcast.
I've already agreed with you here. Threatening others with the most grotesque part of your theology is right in line with most everything you post. Of course it makes perfect sense, you are very consistent in that regard.2. It does make sense. Reject the Source of life and you get death.
I imagine YHWH will have a very special place in heaven for you Seer, where you will get to watch Nascar for eternity, while occasionally watching those across the great divide burning in agony as you snicker and think... "told you so".3. And why wait for the Football season when we have NASCAR right now... Oops - I have to run, I think Jr. took the lead...
Jesus must be very proud,

July 27th 2003, 08:12 PM #15First, I never even suggested that Jefferson was a Christian. So either you are mistaken LG, or... Unlike you I know my history. And this from a man who thought Jefferson was a Christian and that the Declaration of Independence is the legal document that our "god given" rights are based on here in the US. (thank you Tom for the First Amendment...)
Second, I also never suggested that the Declaration of Independence was a legal document. It was however the founding document that set fourth the moral reasoning for human rights. And that moral reasoning pointed to God as the source of said rights."And all our yesterdays have lighted fools, the way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Shakespeare
