Re: The Critics And The DaVinci Code. How Verrry Curious
The book has good reviews and high sales rank on amazon.com. This book has been incredibly popular despite the percentage of Christians in America. This says to me, that the film adaptation probably wasn't good. This wouldn't be surprising, there are many good books out there that have horrid film adaptations. (Many people hate the old LoTR movie--there are other examples just can't think of any more at the moment.)

I know a good number of Christian who went to see TDC. I think the bad reviews are largely due to Tom Hanks' new hairstyle.

Maybe it is just a case of the hype souring the reviews - nothing could live up to the hype this thing has gotten.

Er, yeah, lot of conservative Christian bias there...
And I love that the Atlanta Constitution* had a positive review
Could it possibly be that it's just a bad movie? Nahhhh.....

Tom Hanks hair should be enough to cause bad reviews.

And I think his hair, if not something else, was absolutely needed to make him look different from his last, however many, movies. I thought it was a good "professorial" kind of touch befitting his character.

Re: The Critics And The DaVinci Code. How Verrry Curious
What a contrast between TDC and The Passions of the Christ. Mel Gibson had to fund Passions all by himself because no production company would back him, yet TDC was backed by Sony and Google. It was too risque to back a movie that portrayed a favorable view of Christianity, but corporations are more than willing to promote a film that encourages conspiracy theories in the Christian faith. Moreoever, I wonder if a film will ever be produced in the US that promotes conspiracy theories in the Islamic or Jewish faiths. Let me save you the suspense, the answer is probably not. Why you ask? Because dabbling with conspiracy theories in any religion other than Christianity isn't politically correct. Not only that, But Islamic fundamentalists would probably bomb the theaters.

Forgive me for being slow but is Minnesota really saying that the bad reviews
from critics are a result of Christians?God loves being Abraham's father,
God loves being David's father,
God loves being my father
So when someone asks "Who's ya daddy?" I say God.

I doubt its causal. Athiests are over represented in Film Critic circles. Right wing Christians, underrepresented. But most critics are intellectuals, and don't like cheesy thrillers on principle.

I saw the movie last night. Definitely not Oscar material, but enjoyable for what it was: fictional entertainment, pure and simple. Provided, of course, that you were able to suspend disbelief. I suspect that for many of the critics that may have proved a bit difficult; I know it was for me and I'm certainly not in a position to be biased against it!

I will say the movie was highly inaccurate historically, but that's not why I didn't like it. I just thought it was a boring movie and I nearly dozed off during it. In case any one thinks it's my own bias, I didn't like the Passion movie either. Biblical movies sadly seem to bore me a lot of times.

Re: The Critics And The DaVinci Code. How Verrry Curious
It was simply a bad movie.
The plot devices they used to move the story along were completely contrived--first, a little car that zips in and out of nowhere, a safe-deposit box that 'comes with a safe exit clause'--yeah, whatever, and finally, "I have a plane."
All of the characters, Teabing included, telegraphed their intentions from the first few seconds they were on the screen, and you could tell instantly what he or she was up to.
I also found it funny when, at one point, Sophie had three hands due to a continuity error.Okay, I finally have a blog.

Yes Minn, the Church is behind a huge conspiracy to make it so your favorite movie gets bad reviews.
