Why liberals fear global warming far more than Conservatives do?

Why liberals fear global warming far more than conservatives do

      by Dennis Prager

Observers of contemporary society will surely have noted that a liberal is far more likely to fear global warming than a conservative.

      Why is this?

After all, if the science is as conclusive as Al Gore, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times and virtually every other spokesman of the Left says it is, conservatives are just as likely to be scorched and drowned and otherwise done in by global warming as liberals will. So why aren't non-leftists nearly as exercised as leftists are? Do conservatives handle heat better? Are libertarians better swimmers? Do religious people love their children less?

The usual liberal responses -- to label a conservative position racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic or the like -- obviously don't apply here. So, liberals would have to fall back on the one remaining all-purpose liberal explanation: "big business." They might therefore explain the conservative-liberal divide over global warming thus: Conservatives don't care about global warming because they prefer corporate profits to saving the planet.

      http://www.townhall.com/opinion/colu...20/201891.html

So true. Discuss the "liberal mindset" or Leftwing or Al Gore agenda on "Global Warming".

I think liberals tend to be more concerned about the environment - it seems to me it would be more natural for them to take up the global warming issue - they were on the environment back when a global ice age was the concern.

      Hmmm, here is one reason:

-- The Left is prone to hysteria.

The belief that global warming will destroy the world is but one of many hysterical notions held on the Left. As noted in a previous column devoted to the Left and hysteria, many on the Left have been hysterical about the dangers of the PATRIOT Act and the NSA surveillance of phone numbers (incipient fascism); secondhand smoke (killing vast numbers of people); drilling in the remotest area of Alaska (major environmental despoliation); and opposition to same-sex marriage (imminent Christian theocracy).

Where was Al Gore on the extinction of the Wooly Mammouth issue?

Where is his outrage on the melting of the Mars ice caps?

I agree with the Gerb on this one; I think the enviroment (including a sustainable human environment) is the primary issue for most liberals. The other ideas mentioned in the referenced article seem to me to be about equal when it comes to liberal vs. conservative.

Re: Why liberals fear global warming far more than Conservatives do?

Al gore has gone over the cliff on this issue and declares we have a "crisis".

      Yawn.

      More:

-- The Left believes that if The New York Times and other liberal news sources report something, it is true. If the cover of Time magazine says, "Global Warming: Be Worried, Very Worried," liberals get worried, very worried, about global warming.

It is noteworthy that liberals, one of whose mottos is "question authority," so rarely question the authority of the mainstream media. Now, of course, conservatives, too, often believe mainstream media. But conservatives have other sources of news that enable them to achieve the liberal ideal of questioning authority. Whereas few liberals ever read non-liberal sources of information or listen to conservative talk radio, the great majority of conservatives are regularly exposed to liberal news, liberal editorials and liberal films, and they have also received many years of liberal education.

Re: Why liberals fear global warming far more than Conservatives do?

      which conservatives though ?

the religious Christian conservatives dont worry about glabal warming because they believe what the Bible says about the end of the earth, its going to end anyway so you might as well enjoy your big suburban

the irreligious conservatives just want bigger profits and so do there investors . instead of complaining about high oil prices they buy stock in oil so they win either way, if gas is cheap they have low gas bills , if its high, they make more money in their investments, and wonder whyy the rest of us are so dumb not to see it, ( i just dont have any money to invest so thats why i cant take advantage of it myhself. )

i would put myself in the religious conservative bunch, i believe theres a God who already has the end figured out so i dont have to sweat it about burning fuels, i just enjoy life and go about my merry way

Ohh isn't that lovely, lets continue to destroy the ecological equilibrium, because God will come and destroy it all soon anyway.

you need to enjoy a good old fashioned outdoor backyard barbecue

my belief is that we cant destroy the earth no matter how hard we tried before its time. I believe the time of the end is set so why worry about it, thers nothing i can do to change its set time anyway.

A nice belief, I hope for the future generations it comes true, else they will live in quite the mess as the earths equilibrium tries to reestablish itself.

[speachless]..................................................[/speachless]... I... Woah. I thought people who believed that sort of thing were myths created to make Chistians look irresponsible and, frankly, dumb. The pagans looking over my shoulder are loving this.

Let's just immagine you're right, though. What if the end isn't due for hundreds or thousands of years? What if the "end" is in several billion years when the Sun goes nova? Isn't it worth keeping the planet in good condition for all the people who live in it until then?
To rebel against a powerful political, economic, religious, or social establishment is very dangerous and very few people do it, except, perhaps, as part of a mob. To rebel against the "scientific" establishment, however, is the easiest thing in the world, and anyone can do it and feel enormously brave, without risking as much as a hangnail. Thus, the vast majority, who believe in astrology and think that the planets have nothing better to do than form a code that will tell them whether tomorrow is a good day to close a business deal or not, become all the more excited and enthusiastic about the bilge when a group of astronomers denounces it.

i dont worry about that, if theres a God which i belive there is, then i have faith He will make sure the planet will be in good condition till he decides times up. it says in the bible i believe in that when the end comes things will be as they are now and when the flood came, that people were giving in marriage and nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary in other words. That means it will be life as usual when the end comes which means theres no discomfort because of any global warming.
so thats why i am not concerned and neither are other religious right conservatives who believe the bible is right .

so thats why we dont sweat it like you . we enjoy life and figure some things are out of our hands anyway so why worry about those things we cant control anyway.
