In The Goonies 2 your primary weapon was a yo-yo, but no one ever mentions it.

What does the Startropics yo-yo have that the Goonies yo-yo doesn't have?

The yo-yo upgrades into a plasma mace. Unfortunately they changed it to some random thrown bladed weapon in the Startropics sequel.

Startropics was an awesome game. I beat both of them multiple times as a youngster, very good series IMO, needs to be remade.

oh man, i still remember the cerebral bore (turok 2? or 3?). it actually sucked as a practical weapon, it was just fun to watch a mutant dino's brains get bored out.

Hum...a bit off mark some of the selections. The HL2 grav gun is useful as a tool, but ropey as a weapon - I much prefer the combine rifle or shotgun as a default. The Halo energy sword is OK, but leaves you too exposed unless you're playing as the Arbiter and have the benefit of cloaking. My preferred Halo combo is the mini plasma gun paired with the SMG - take the baddies shields down with the charged plasma, then drop them with an SMG clip.

One serious omission was any kind of sniper weapon - no, the rail gun doesn't count. My fave is the Arctic Warfare Magnum from Counterstrike, especially when you have a good team distracting the opponents from your presence.

The Quake 2 BFG is the best weapon - it's just too powerful. The incarnations in Q3 and Doom 3 are useful, but not as good.

for me, my favorite weapons in general are explosive ones. but i get crazy with them and start killing myself (and teammates, if applicable)


the disk launcher from Tribes should be an honorable mention.
