      There was a great story about a WWII effort by the Allies to "tap" the underwater cable that the Germans were using to communicate with some of their outlying posts. Long story short, a recon team had estimated where the cables would have had to leave land, and decided to try to locate that transition point. When they went along the beach, there was a sign warning "Do not anchor or trawl here - you may damage underwater cables".

      They were, indeed, the "secret" cables.
      The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

        ok. I guess that means that the rumours about the Allies just getting "sorry the number you have dialed is no longer in service" are just fabrications.

          I think they should have added: "These are not the secret cables."

            Yes, that would have kept the allies from investigating further.
