Noah's Ark Found in Iran?!
Before you yawn, just check out this link, folks: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/ar...TICLE_ID=50857. There are pics from the expedition find as well. I am a bit skeptical, but if this does turn out to be true, I wonder how geologists will explain away why petrified wood planks, cleanly cut at 90 degree angles are doing protruding from a mountain slope at over 15,000 feet elevation with marine fossils embedded inside. I hope that subsequent investigations of the site are conducted with scientists from around the world and that the media doesn't ignore the story.

Re: Noah's Ark Found in Iran?!
I heard about this story quite some time ago, and so far worldnetdaily has been the only place to cover it, so I don't think it's getting any attention...

And that's not good!

There's an article in Christian Worldview as well, and according to that article,
Dr. Bob Cornuke happens to be the leader of the expedition that found the ark, and he also happens to be a "featured Worldview Weekend speaker".
'nuff said.

The story was also covered at ABCNews.com: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=2133311&page=1. It is indeed interesting news. I agree with decoski, I hope the find gets some broader scientific scrutiny. The articles on the internet aren't terribly informative.

Re: Noah's Ark Found in Iran?!
Why is it that every piece of wood found in the mountains has to be Noah's ark? Iran has a huge history - why couldn't it be the remains of a fort, a sanctuary, a temple or whatever?

Re: Noah's Ark Found in Iran?!
Not on a Christian web-site - there it could only be the remains of Noah's Ark.

Good point.

And how do we even know it was wood? They said they tested it, but what test and what were the results? I saw the pictures from an earlier article and they look to me like blocks of basalt, an ordinary igneous extrusive rock. If you click on the link you'll see the pics and the earlier article. It even says in the article,
So what was this test? If it was a carbon analysis, they should know basalts can be 0.7-0.8% in carbon. Maybe we'll find out.Reg Lyle, oil and gas geologist said “the object appears to be a basalt dike, however, it is absolutely uncanny that the object looks like hand hewn timbers, even the grain and color look just like petrified wood….I really need to keep an open mind about this.”

Re: Noah's Ark Found in Iran?!
Claiming one found remnants, no matter what their state, of Noah's ark is like claiming one found remnants of Bifröst.
It ain't ever going to happen.
In Norse mythology, Bifröst is the bridge leading from the realm of mortals, Midgard, to the realm of the gods, Asgard, which the gods travel daily to hold their councils and pass judgements at Urdarbrunn (Well of Urd) under the shade of the tree Yggdrasil.

I think we don't have enough information to base any sort of conclusion yet.
I did find the story about the fossil shells being found inside the "wood" to be a bit strange. How would that happen?

Re: Noah's Ark Found in Iran?!
Bob Cornuke, the leader of that expedition, was one of the two men (the other was Larry Williams) that "discovered" that Mt. Sinai was really Jebel al-Lawz in Saudi Arabia (i.e., outside the Sinai Peninsula, where it has generally been understood to be located), following leads originally "discovered" (or perhaps "invented" would be a better term) by Ron Wyatt, another leader of expeditions who claimed that he had found Noah's Ark, the other Ark, and numerous other Biblical artefacts. Point being, that Cornuke and Williams were very careful to claim full credit for the Jebel al-Lawz discovery while completely covering over that they stole the idea from Wyatt, with whom Williams had been earlier connected.

While not wanting to get into the Wyatt Foundation v. Cornuke et al. hassle in general, my own take is that neither side has enough true archaeological credentials to be taken seriously. Nothing I've seen on Cornuke's work has seemed at all credible. I'd put this story in the same pile.

Before passing judgment upon Cornuke's claim, why not wait until an independent investigation team studies the site? Let's hope that happens first.
