Noahs Flood, Local. Adam and Eve, Local?

I cannot escape statements such as Eve being the "mother of all living". This rules out a local creation story or the Bible is simply not a reliable document. I realize this is not a problem for some of you, but it would be for me.

In view of this mind set on the part of the author, it would seem that he also meant "the whole earth" as well when he talked about the flood.
We're pretty boxed in here too.

The word 'earth' can also be translated as 'land,' which implies a more localized area. But even so it's not a big deal, after all how often are absolute phrases actually ment to be taken that way?
