Will you buy Windows Vista, when it comes out?

Wikipedia has some info on where the Next Great Version of Windows stands now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista

I'm not going bias the poll by posting a lot of junk here on my opinion. I guess where i stand, in summary, is I wasn't going to even bother, as WinXP works well enough. but, if they really did secure it up as well as is claimed, i may have a go at Vista.

They apparently leaked the prices for Vista, and though i bet they'll change by the time it comes out, as it stands the prices are the same for XP right now in all it's iterations. E.g. Vista Home Basic (comparable to XP Home) will run $199 for a full install.

I've voted not likely, purely because I can get it as a freebie through my MSDN licencing! No guarantee I'll use it anyway...

I'd like a combination option of "Windows is t3h devil" and "probably."

Not a chance. I'm sticking with Tiger. Maybe Leopard when it is released.

I won't bother with any compatability issues with my computer. I will just wait until I need a new computer.

I will probably wait at least three months and let them work the big bugs out (just in time for them to invent or find new ones), and then probably go for it.
Okay, I finally have a blog.

same here. I'll be waiting till i get a new computer, which shouldn't be long after Vista's arrival.

actually, i've heard a few people say that. it's a good idea, i think it wasn't until about 6 months to a year after XP was release before it became rock solid. (Yes, i say that with tongue firmly plainted in cheek)

i think the biggest hurdle for Vista is that XP just works so well for most people. I remember Win ME had me begging to upgrade to XP. 98 wasn't as bad, but the whole 9x family had it's daemons to exercise. that and the requirements make it a no-go for most computers unless they were made this year or thereafter.

Yeah, what's supposed to be better about Vista, anyway? XP does everything I need.

      it'll be prettier.

supposedly, it is made to be secure from the kernel up (XP on the other hand, had to be secured after the fact with patches). time will tell.

the newest version of IE, WMP, DirectX, and .Net are going to be coming out on Vista. i remember someone was telling me how l34t DirectX 10 will be

i betcha that's there ha gotcha. DirectX 10 is not compatible with XP or earlier versions of Windows. so if you want to play the newest games, you'll have to upgrade. NJon is right, i should have made "MS is teh devil" a separate option :evul:

No... none of my hardware will run it/run it well, and after using it in VMWare at work, I'm not convinced it's actually any better than anything I'm running now. (currently Linux and OS X)

Re: Will you buy Windows Vista, when it comes out?

If I buy a computer that has it pre-loaded I'll use it, but any machines that need reformatting or don't have anything loaded will get some form of linux installed instead.
