Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
School is in session!
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6, ESV)
If you think you’re an adult all grown up, think again! “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become CHILDREN of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12–13, ESV, emphasis mine) The moment you received Jesus in heart you began your second childhood and don’t think for a minute you’ll ever be anything but a child of God.
A couple of days ago we reflected on what “we and Jesus” were doing together. This morning let’s take a look back on some of the lessons we learned in our younger days. Remember the time you were learning to ride a two-wheeler? You fell, it hurt but you got back on again! What did you learn? Remember the time your first love broke your heart? It hurt and it hurt deeply, but you loved again! What did you learn? Remember the time you prayed and prayed hard but God didn’t answer? It hurt, thinking something was wrong with you questioned why, but you prayed and prayed again and again! What did you learn?
we want to be good at everything so among the toughest lessons for us to learn is our weaknesses unfortunately not many people want to admit their weaknesses let alone emphasize them. Yet the apostle Paul wrote, “Yes, I am glad to be weak or insulted or mistreated or to have troubles and sufferings, if it is for Christ. Because when I am weak, I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:10, CEV) Author Josh Kelly using the example of the church as the body of Christ in his book Radically normal agrees with Paul, “Our weaknesses aren’t flaws in our design—they’re features of it. The body needs each part in order to get the job done. God designed us to need not only his grace but also each other.” We spend a great deal of time and energy learning to be independent only to learn it is instead it’s interdependence we need to learn.
Isaiah not only gives us the reason that as long as we draw breath school will always be in session but also on the process of how we learn. “Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just drawn from the breasts? For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little.” (Isaiah 28:9–10, NKJV, emphasis mine)
I remember from my grade school days how much I loved recess! It was my favorite class it’s too bad we weren’t graded for it because it would have offset bad grades from other classes! Having said that recess was and is important because it is where we learn to work and play with others. So don’t forget to go out for recess you need it! Gotta go the playground is calling!
Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Celebrate!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
