  • Ben Carson - Coon Of The Year?

How do such stupid people get to teach our kids? And why do liberals get to say anything without consequences?

An Ivy League professor said that Ben Carson should win the "coon of the year" after the 2016 hopeful supported allowing Confederate flags at NASCAR events.

In a tweet sent out last Tuesday, University of Pennsylvania religious studies progress Anthea Butler, wrote "If only there was a 'coon of the year' award ..." when responding to Daily Beast editor-at-large Goldie Taylor's tweet containing a link to a Sports Illustrated article on the issue.

The key words/phrases are "Ivy League Professor" -- the name sounds Black, "Coon" -- apply this to Obummer and see what happens, and "Private Property" -- it's none of the Gubmint's beeswax.

I'm not familiar with the word 'coon' myself, but having looked it up, it appears that she'll get away with saying it because she's black herself. Generally derogatory terms get overlooked when the person using them is part of the oppressed group.

"[Capitalism] as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of evils. I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy" - Albert Einstein

It's not the most common term in the US but is generally considered extremely offensive.

it's liable to get your head smashed in in South Africa.

Despite that the Coon Carnival is a highly popular event for the Cape Coloureds, and the Capetonians don't want to have it's name changed.

I never use the term unless I'm trying to obtain some alliteration with a bunch of other words that start with "C". And I don't even recall even using it that way in postings here or anywhere. I'm guilty of a "Thought Crime"! How soon will that persecution ("Thought" crimes) start here in the U. S? Everything else has already fallen.

I cannot recall any part of the U.S. that I've ever been in where it wouldn't be considered extremely inflammatory. Unfortunately if the black person is conservative then they're deemed to be fair game. Look at the things that have been said about Clarence Thomas, Condoleezza Rice and Michael Steele that would be judged as inappropriate or down right racist if said about a non conservative black person.

                  Right, I fully agree.
"Uncle Tom" remains the correct designation for such as Clarence Thomas, Tim Scott (the senator from South Carolina) , and Ben Carson, and "Aunt" for Condaleeza Rice.

Does Adam advocate those monikers for these conservative Black leaders, or is he just pointing out what racist liberal Blacks refer to them as.

Definitely different things. The former is racist, the latter is fact.

                          What think y'all?

The former. He said it was the "correct designation". He didn't say "some folk think..."

I have no idea whether it's racist or not though, since TWeb is effectively colourblind.
