Nintendo Wii
Okay, it was finally released yesterday. Anyone buy it?
I didn't have the money or the inclination to wait in line to get it, but I probably will in the next few months. (especially if Santa floats me some bling bling
)
I've not owned a gaming system in years and have absolutely zero interest in either the 360 or PS3, but I can't wait to get a Wii. Why? Well, I'm not really a gamer, but the games they have look like fun. I love the demo of the tennis game where you're using the remote as if it's a tennis racquet. I will have to see what games I wanna buy, the only bummer is the cost ($50 a game!!?) though I understand they are still more reasonable than most 360 and PS3 games.
The other thing I love is the virtual console that will let you play old games that Nintendo used to make. This will date me but I have lots of fond memories of playing Super Mario Bros. on my NES when I was a kid. The day my family got rid of the NES was a sad, sad, sad day even though I didn't realize it at the time.
I honestly can't wait to open that Wii and immediately load up on old NES games.
Now I'm getting really excited and wishing I had waited in line

Re: Nintendo Wii
Haven't bought a games console since the Dreamcast came out (shut up, it was awesome). If Lucasarts make a jedi game where the Wii controller is the lightsabre, I might consider it.
To rebel against a powerful political, economic, religious, or social establishment is very dangerous and very few people do it, except, perhaps, as part of a mob. To rebel against the "scientific" establishment, however, is the easiest thing in the world, and anyone can do it and feel enormously brave, without risking as much as a hangnail. Thus, the vast majority, who believe in astrology and think that the planets have nothing better to do than form a code that will tell them whether tomorrow is a good day to close a business deal or not, become all the more excited and enthusiastic about the bilge when a group of astronomers denounces it.

Re: Nintendo Wii
I'm curious how people are doing with that crazy remote.
In the grave they chose to make their beds
Now all that they've created comes crashing down,
Down upon their heads
Death is waiting

Re: Nintendo Wii
Perhaps this is entirely unjustified (I haven't played with a Wii yet), but I can't get "Power Glove" out of my mind.

Re: Nintendo Wii
My family has never owned a gaming console, but I'm hoping I can somehow convince my mother to get us a Wii instead of the proposed ping pong table.

And do not wonder that a man may become an imitator of God. He can, if he is willing. For it is not by ruling over his neighbours, or by seeking to hold the supremacy over those that are weaker, or by being rich, and showing violence towards those that are inferior, that happiness is found; nor can any one by these things become an imitator of God. But these things do not at all constitute His majesty. On the contrary he who takes upon himself the burden of his neighbour; he who, in whatsoever respect he may be superior, is ready to benefit another who is deficient; he who, whatsoever things he has received from God, by distributing these to the needy, becomes a god to those who receive [his benefits]: he is an imitator of God.

Re: Nintendo Wii
Depending on how accurate the remote is, Wii could have serious potential. I am planning to wait at least six months so I can have some good reviews, a better selection of games, and so I won't have to wait in line for it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they come out with a ping pong game for Wii.

I'm no nintento fanboi, but....
I'm absolutely in love with the Wii. I'm not buying it yet because I don't care for the lines and I don't have the time to play it right now, but I will be buying it in January or February of next year no matter what.
With the exception of the DreamCast (which that <insert word of your choosing> president of Sega ruined...) I've never even wanted to purchase a console system before. The Wii will be the first console I've ever purchased (well, not counting my DS & the Genesis system my father bought me when I was a kid) - in the past I've just kept upgrading my computer."Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.

Re: Nintendo Wii
The fun thing about the light saber idea -- the wii remote has a little speaker in it, and it vibrates. So you won't hear the light saber sound coming from the TV, you'll hear it coming from the remote that vibrates as you strike things.
It's really innovative and cool. Other than the lame name, Nintendo really has a great idea going.
Now the next step is to create a way to fully-immerse people in a 3-D environment. Virtual reality "goggles" are considered a joke, but why? I would LOVE to play a game like Oblivion in true 3-D.

Lame, the name? Heck no. I like it way better than revolution, especially considering how many unlimited supply of off-color jokes you can have with the current name.

That was considered in the Wii's development, but it was decided not to do so because of costs

I will never enjoy the name. I've made peace with that.Lame, the name? Heck no. I like it way better than revolution, especially considering how many unlimited supply of off-color jokes you can have with the current name.
There must be a way to do it relatively cheaply. Some day, I hope, some day. It seems like it would be easy to do on the game-side, it's just the cost of the peripheral holding it back. That was considered in the Wii's development, but it was decided not to do so because of costs

Re: Nintendo Wii
*drool* I want one. I just found out this guy that works for me has one. I was trying to do the hint-at-inviting-me-over-to-play thing, but he only ended up asking me what my favorite games were. He also has Twilight Princess
Commander Tomalak: You will not survive our attack.
Captain Picard: You will not survive ours. Shall we die together?

Re: Nintendo Wii
I have many PC games at the moment, so I am pretty preoccupied. I have more games than I can handle at the moment (Oblivion, WoW, FFXII, Civilization IV...)
I'm probably going to buy one after the holidays.
