Detox Diet
Has anyone been on a detox diet before? Did it help you feel better? I am thinking about trying one.

Which one?

I have tried detox by juice fast (inspired by luv1another) and it was great. I ate no food but only juiced fruits and vegetables-- as much and as many times I wanted- and drank water. For the first 1.5-2 days, I was tired, achy, and had lots of mucous coming out everywhere, but then it cleared up and I felt wonderful-- so full of a natural energy and alertness.
I tried to juice so many carrots that my skin would turn orange just to see what I would look like, but I guess I didn't drink enough of them. But I was slamming pounds and pounds of them daily-- I thought it'd be cool to look like a freak for a minute, but no dice.
I tried to juice beets because they say you get lots of vitamins and stuff from them, but unless you like to eat them I advise against it. It made my juice taste like dirt from the ground.
I need to go on another one, I could use that..... but it's really expensive if you don't do it when stuff's out of season.
That's all I know.

Any Detox Diet really. Hmm...I might try that. I have just felt sluggish and well..to be honest, I am gaining pounds left and right. I want to get rid of all the negative things that I have consumed from Restaraunts and the sort.

Re: Detox Diet
I think to maximize the benefit it is best to juice them. I've read that that way, your colon takes a rest and your body's cells can use the energy to clean house better. But now that I think about it, I dunno how true that last part is. I'm going to email my professor and ask her about cellular respiration & digestion and all that during a fast, cuz now I am curious as to what exactly is happening. I can tell you, anecdotally, that when I diid it, my body dumped a bunch of stuff, especially via mucous.

You won't starve at all on the diet-- you have to remember that you are juicing as much as you feel like it. And it takes a lot of vegetables going thru the juicer to fill up a glass of juice to drink. So you're juicing out all of those good nutrients and drinking them all day long, while simply tossing away the pulp. Trust me, you will not starve at all.
What happened to me is that I finally got the chance to distinguish between true hunger and cravings. My body was completely satisfied during the fast, but for quite a while, I craved something really greasy to eat so badly. At first I thought it was due to hunger, but I later realized that it was something that needed to be held at bay, because it wasn't true hunger. It was an eye-opening experience for me, as I had been misinterpreting for so many years signals my body was giving me that it was hooked on jacked up stuff, and I was thinking I was hungry. I can now tell the difference.
You might not lose a lot of weight on a juice fast-- I don't think I did, but some people do. But I did become early-to-bed, early-to-rise during that time, and was truly the best sleep and rest I've ever had in my life. And when I awoke in the morning ,I felt like leaping out of bed, and so full of energy all day long-- an energy, but at natural levels.
Whatever you choose to do, I hope it works out well for you, and enjoy!

Re: Detox Diet
I'm not much in favor of juicing detoxes. I think they're ok to do, but don't know that they are that effective at removing toxins. I think it's more helpful to juice while doing an actual detox. The 4321 detox is a pretty good one. It's got herbs in it to help burn fat and cleanse the body. And it only uses herbs that are proven to help lose weight and cleanse you out (like green tea), so it's all natural. It's helpful to jump-start a diet or healthy eating regime as well. Oh, and you can continue a normal diet while doing it, which is also nice (no fasting).

Re: Detox Diet
by continueing to eat solids you do not allow your body to completely cleanse itself... all you are advising with that post is a dietry supplement like a vitamin pill...not exactly a detox.
to detox properly you should actually cut out solids for a few days and only have liquids.
really fasting in the bible was detoxing in many ways.... they stopped eating and only drank water allowing the body to get rid of junk. heck they didnt even eat junk food...how much more would we need it
I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.

Re: Detox Diet
i have fasted off and on for a while now, and I highly recommend it. Physically, you go through some great phases, and definitely come out on the other end feeling cleansed. BUT! I am not a doctor, though i played one on TV. I am not sure how much actual cleansing is going on. I haven't had the accompanying despackeling from an enema
or anything like that. I can say though that i just felt better.
And the best of all, is that if you do it for the glory of God, you can get some awesome spiritual benefits from it.But what can cold reason do in this matter? It may present us with fair ideas; it can draw a fine picture of love: But this is only a painted fire. And farther than this reason cannot go. I made the trial for many years. I collected the finest hymns, prayers, and meditations which I could find in any language; and I said, sung, or read them over and over, with all possible seriousness and attention. But still I was like the bones in Ezekiel's vision: "The skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them." - John Wesley

Re: Detox Diet
Allow me to bring a much needed dose of reality to this thread: our bodies do not need "detoxing." We have perfectly good systems that cleanse harmful agents from our bodies on a minute-by-minute basis.
Please read a round of actual science before you begin a "detox" regimen that might be foolish:
WebMD on "Detox" Diets
The people at the Mayo Clinic probably know what they're talking about too.
The truth is, if you stick to a healthy diet, you'll be helping your body out to the greatest extent it needs. No additional readical "detoxing" is necessary.
I get angry when I see people being seduced by fad or pop "science," so please do me a favor and read those articles."Even religion, though it goes beyond logic, cannot go against it; if it did, it would literally be unbelievable."
Amen.

i agree wholeheartedly with CHEM.
I also totally promote fasting.
No debate, no problem. But what can cold reason do in this matter? It may present us with fair ideas; it can draw a fine picture of love: But this is only a painted fire.
