Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

No, I mean that the fate of the universe is not dependent on the whims of man.

You've conceded that the whims of Adam are powerful enough to transform the universe from a perpetually sustaining one to one that expands into nothing and runs out of fuel. If no one sinned, God would've had to put the brakes on the process of stars burning fuel and galaxies expanding away from each other. That makes no sense.

And with that we've come full circle:

Why do you assume that an omnipotent God who created all that exists would somehow be powerless to prevent the destruction of the universe?

Because the teleology of the universe was that it initially expand and decay. Why's that? You unfortunately are locked into a temporal understanding: 1. God creates universe with entropy and dark energy 2. first human sins 3. God keeps universe going.

The absurdity here is that at what point would God make the universe eternal? After the 400th generation passes the test of being totally perfect? My view is that's a completely unreasonable expectation given that we are animals with the equipment of wild animals (e.g., territoriality, unnecessarily overactive sex drive, inclination to call sisters dumbass--oh wait...that's just a characteristic of our species).

You, whag, have an amazingly small concept of what God is. But, to be fair, so do a lot of Christians.
Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

whag is agnostic, not much of a concept of God there.

Is God big and mysterious enough to create you through evolution?
