My serger got me through many a Mardi Gras'.
Use the expensive stretchy thread. If you use regular thread it will break all the time. Do not change it ever.
I know nothing about tailoring but for making costumes it is the best thing ever. Use knit materials and you can measure people by chalking their outline on the cloth policeman style.
