Re: Islamic Polygamy Rhetoric Totally Debunked
Moose,
You say: ".I am sorry for the mistake. You can't marry just for intercourse.."
And that is exactly what Mutaa marriage is set up for! Temporary marriage is something that is quite acceptable in Sha Islam-your kind, anyway it is mentioned in the Sunni Hadith.
The Hadith, however, quite clearly teach that Muhammad initially allowed temporary marriages:
Salama b. al-Akwa and Jabir b. Abdullah reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) came to us and permitted us to contract temporary marriages. (Sahih Muslim, Vol. 2, p. 706).
The mention of caliph Umar's declaration on mut'ah in the quote from Gaudefroy-Demombynes' book should also be considered. There is a tradition to the effect that a woman came to Umar during his caliphate and stated that a certain Rabiah had contracted a mut'ah with a foreign woman born in Arabia and that this woman was now pregnant Umar exclaimed: "This is temporary marriage. If I had forbidden it previously, I would have ordered stoning" (Muwatta Imam Malik, p. 240).
Face it, this shia practice of Mutaa - TEMPORARY marriage, is really for legalising 'sexual intercourse on impulse' by Muslim men who are away from their legal wives. So theres no sin for such men who do it.
Salam Dan."Theres a God-shaped vacuum in everyone that can only be filled by God Himself!"

Re: Islamic Polygamy Rhetoric Totally Debunked
Hello and Peace be to you Dan,
Dan if you read my post above you would see that Allah ordered women to go far away from mean seeking lust. Temporary Marriage is that you can spend time with the person you are interested in and see if you want to marry them or not. You can have intimacy and intercourse as well. Now if one sees the reasoning behind this they would perfectly see why temporary marriage is a good way of interacting. Say that two people meet, they date, but the absence of sin is not there between the two. They might get talking and things may get intimate and that may lead to fornication. Islam allows people to get to know eachother and be intimate with them so they can see what type of person they are and if they want to spend the rest of their lives together. This is not with Christianity where you marry a person and you are not allowed to divorce them unless they commit adultery. And Dan, did you not read the bible where Paul says for women to marry so they can relieve their desires?

a temporary marriage is not marriage.
intimacy is a small part of marriage, raising a family is a bigger part. temporary 'marriage contracts' don't make fornication any more or less "legal" (God's legal code)
